Neal Shipley (PGA Golf Pro)

Kid seems to have his head screwed on straight. The leap from collegiate/Korn Ferry to the PGA tour is immense. Good ball striking is assumed, most are putting contests. The numbers on Script's post are numbers I'd kill for, but as noted, not quite good enough. Practice, practice, practice, and then hopefully get hot for four days in a tournament. Seems simple, but hard to do. Also, hard not to get discouraged. But as said, he's got his head screwed on straight. And, keep seeing his mug in some commercials, which has to be a good thing, as he's making money while he's trying to make some coin on the tour. Hopefully he keeps his card for another year. Neal, hit 'em long, straight, and not too often.

So far this year, Shipley has only made the cut 2 times (finishing T68 and T38) out of 11 tournaments and winning just $36,472. However, he did do pretty well yesterday in the opening round of the CJ Cup Byron Nelson Tournament. He shot a 66 which ties him at 16th place.

The 66 is his best PGA round so far this year:

Only $36k so far this year, playing golf. We should all be so miserable
In golf though, that’s indicative of his play and placement. It’s also very minimal winnings with his costs. I’m sure he has sponsors but that can dry up if he doesn’t start playing more weekends and getting higher on the board.

Earnings also play into getting into the no cut tournaments. This is why you see Koepka playing so much, to raise his status.

But it’s two made cuts in a row (though making the lesser event cut last week wasn’t terribly impressive), and he’s been missing most cuts by just a shot or two rather than truly bottom feeding all year so hopefully he’s finding his footing. He has a fair amount of work to do to keep his card past this year. He’s tied for 40th this week, which won’t get worse as everyone below him is done and could, but is unlikely, to get a bit better if a few guys ahead of him falter.
