NDChief and his fountain of eternal stupidity

As most of you know I know nothing about bands....

But, since I hear about OSU's band all the time I decided to pay attention.
Here goes....

Song- Texas- How can you argue with Stairway to Heaven
Formation- Texas - It was just cooler......
And one final note.... OSU had a guy baton twirler !! WOW!!

Sorry, just telling it like I saw it. Ding away ....

:p

Not sure of the point of posting this, Chief, but have fun.

I'll take TBDBITL, though Texas was much closer to its quality than most. Weird hearing winds now, though. It should be noted that it is against laws of physics to have multiple piccolos and stay in tune... ouchie.

First. It's pretty tough to judge based on such a small portion of the show. You got to see less than 1/2 song from each band.

I'm completely biased, but I thought OSU was playing a much more challenging arrangement (for william tell, anyway--the 15 seconds of can-can was the entire band blaring over a simple bass line...). Texas was playing a high-school arrangement of Led Zeppelin. I have literally heard high school bands play that exact arrangement.

Formation? You saw OSU enter a concert-style formation to finish a song, and did not see them leave it in the second song. You saw texas move slightly, play for a bit, and move again. not impressed.

Drum major? Awesome. Much better than the gay-ass Roy Rogers wannabees.

You've got to be kidding

Any thread with your name is suspect. TBDBITL made Texas look like a HS band. I went to the Battle of the Bands in Scottsdale and the game. OSUMB looked sharp and concise, the Texas band did a loose corp style show. Texas music sounded like a high school arrangement and they were not as crisp in their music in either form or sound- even though they looked to be about twice as big. Not sure how you could even start this thread with ignorant statements like you did. Oh- by the way, Texas fans around us were telling me this.

Cowbells
During football games, members of the Longhorn Band shake cowbells to create noise in the stadium while the opposing team has the ball. The bells are rung only after the opposing team snaps the ball or in conjunction with drum cadences. When the opposing team is in the "red zone", the drumline will, at times, call a cadence that simply calls for the band to create as much noise as possible with the cowbells.

Well we just can't get enough of them. Nothing screams class like a cowbell.

Script Texas
First performed in 1957, "Script Texas" was charted by then Longhorn Band Assistant Director, Richard Blair. The form consists of the entire band, led by the Drum Major, spelling 'Texas' in a continuous script writing. Some variation of the formation is performed every year, and sometimes featured in a joint show with the Longhorn Alumni Band.

Script what?

Instruments
Rather than mellophones, baritones, and tubas, LHB has Mellos, SOB's (Society of Baritones), and TUBA!s. Also, the band does not march flutes, only piccolos or Piccs.

Piccolos? In their band?

Please.

Maybe the statements were ignorant, but as said I know nothing about bands. You may be right OSU may very well have one a competition that night but the average football fan tuned in to watch football not to judge the band. The vast majority of football fans could give a rats arse about the band. I work with a ton of football fans and never once have we discussed the halftime show no matter what game we watched. Like it or not I would think most football fans would have agreed with my first post and there are a heck of a lot more football fans than band critics.

So you admit that the first post served no purpose other than to try to stir shit up? Why is it you come to this site again?

So, in your first post, you claim you don't care about, nor know anything about marching bands, yet take the initiative to go on an OSU board to state that the Texas band is better than ours. Then for your second post, you claim that most football fans "could give a rats arse about the band", and you've never discussed the subject with anyone, yet you're sure that most would agree with your assessment. I guess it shouldn't surprise me that a ND fan would be completely devoid of logic. Exponential fail.

You didn't have to admit your ignorance-most people could tell by your statements. The great thing about the OSU Marching Band, the fans watch great football; then most stay at halftime to watch some of the most amazing halftime shows anywhere. Sorry your Notre Dame band doesn't interest your fans, (or any body elses) but at OSU, you're talking about the best. If you had the OSUMB at your ND games, at least you'd have something good on the field at some point during the day.
