i voted sweet sixteen. i havent seen more than 2 good games in a row by this team. thus i picked them to win 1st and 2nd rounders then get bounced in that round. granted this is a team i wouldnt want to play and would not be suprised by a run to the big games, but untill i see consistency and some streak i stick with that.

I see them making it to the Elite 8. I think they can win three games in a row as long as they don't come up against a team that plays zone defense and they forget about the Big man and started jacking up long-range threes.

In all seriousness, elite 8.

I agree with you on this prediction. Last year, Ohio State lacked size and this year they have it. If Ohio State matched up with a team with height like Georgetown I would feel much better than last year. The problem for Ohio State is that they play every team at their level and I believe that once they advance deeper in the tournament that they will start to struggle.

I guess I am the only true homer so far...

I can never see voting against seeing us go all the way...

But in all honesty, I have thought about this time and time and again, and have listened to all the naysayers on here, 1460, newspaper, etc. and still feel we have a pretty good shot...

I keep hearing that they don't play with consistency, they can't put back to back game together, they shoot too much, they don't find the big guy, they are too young, etc....

The thing is we have one of the best NCAA tourney coaches, he hasnt got this team to peak yet, we still have 2 regular season games left, and then the big ten tourney, we havent played anyone that even resembles a sweet 16 team since our loss at Wisky. We have honestly been bored at times, I know the feeling of playing in a game where you know that eventually you will turn it on and beat the team, and you lack that intensity that you need for the whole game.

We will see this Sunday what we do when we come out and play a full game of intensity.

So with all that said I will give 10 reasons why we win it all...

1.) Look around the country and you see that no teams are solidifying themselves. Every team in the country has lost a game they shouldnt have, o yeah besides us.

2.) I would say that everyone agrees that we have as much talent as everyone in the country except say UF.

3.) We are going to get a 1 or a 2 seed, so we should get an easy 1st round game, and then hopefully a pretty favorable matchup in the second.

4.) With a high seed we are not going to see the teams like UF, UNC, Wisky, until probably ATL or in the elite 8, therefore they could either be upset by then.

5.) We have the best big man in college basketball, he is almost back to 100% we have seen him improve all season long and he is a game changer on the defensive end. He takes away teams inside game and can make teams one dimensional. That is why he is the #1 pick in the draft next year.

6.) We have 4 guys that suffered defeat in the 2nd round last year and they are not going to want to feel that again. Cook, Oden, Conley, Lighty have also all won state tournaments or played in the finals of the state tournament. So they all know what it takes to win in a tournament type setting.

7.) Hunter has given us the option of bring in a second big guy to go along with Oden that will not allow a team to dominate us on the inside. This will help out tremendously against a team that sent us home early last year b/c they caused mismatches. Well we can match up pretty well with any team in the country this year.

8.) Free Throws down the stretch, we have Butler and if we have a lead and get the ball in his hands he is clutch at the line and will knock them down. Conley scares me a little here, but he seems to have ice water in his veins.

9.) Conley has became a great PG. Him and Butler will take care of the ball and Conley has done a great job of penetrating and scoring some tough baskets when we needed them.

10a.) We went on the road and played in 4 of the toughest environments in the country, and you could tell that we grew from each one of those games, and have had some real close games, against UT, PSU, MSU, Purdue, NW, so they have been in tight situations and have found ways to win. I keep comparing this team to UF in football who everyone was writing off, b/c they had some close games and no one thought they were that impressive, but when push come to shove they whooped our ass. Maybe some direspect from the committee, would put a chip on this teams shoulder that it needs to lead them all the way...

10b.) And last but not least, I know this could also be our achelies heel, but when/if this team gets hot from the outside, Butler, Lewis, Harris, Cook, Conley we can beat anyone in the country without question, and we have shown this season even in games where we have struggled from behind the arc we have found ways to win.

You sure are! :)

I can never see voting against seeing us go all the way...

So you've obviously taken a pounding on past brackets huh?

But in all honesty, I have thought about this time and time and again, and have listened to all the naysayers on here, 1460, newspaper, etc. and still feel we have a pretty good shot...

I agree. We have as good a shot as anyone. This could be our year

I'm not sure if it's boredom, but it's definitely a lack of intensity. It's like we know we're going to win the game so we just let it play out like a fairytale.

So with all that said I will give 10 reasons why we win it all...

1.) Look around the country and you see that no teams are solidifying themselves. Every team in the country has lost a game they shouldnt have, o yeah besides us.

You are right. We are the only team in the nation that can claim that.

2.) I would say that everyone agrees that we have as much talent as everyone in the country except say UF.

Yes

3.) We are going to get a 1 or a 2 seed, so we should get an easy 1st round game, and then hopefully a pretty favorable matchup in the second.

Yes, and if we're one of the top 3 #1 seeds, we will miss playing the other 4 top teams till the Final 4.

4.) With a high seed we are not going to see the teams like UF, UNC, Wisky, until probably ATL or in the elite 8, therefore they could either be upset by then.

See above

5.) We have the best big man in college basketball, he is almost back to 100% we have seen him improve all season long and he is a game changer on the defensive end. He takes away teams inside game and can make teams one dimensional. That is why he is the #1 pick in the draft next year.

I agree again.

6.) We have 4 guys that suffered defeat in the 2nd round last year and they are not going to want to feel that again. Cook, Oden, Conley, Lighty have also all won state tournaments or played in the finals of the state tournament. So they all know what it takes to win in a tournament type setting.

I agree, although I think our senior leadership on the whole has been a weakness for us this year and is not going to help us out all that much come tourney time.

7.) Hunter has given us the option of bring in a second big guy to go along with Oden that will not allow a team to dominate us on the inside. This will help out tremendously against a team that sent us home early last year b/c they caused mismatches. Well we can match up pretty well with any team in the country this year.

I agree, except that if Oden gets in foul trouble then we're going to need to give Twig minutes. It's my goal to play him as little as possible from here on out. No offense to him.

8.) Free Throws down the stretch, we have Butler and if we have a lead and get the ball in his hands he is clutch at the line and will knock them down. Conley scares me a little here, but he seems to have ice water in his veins.

I disagree here. As a team we are shooting 69.8% at the line. It's not bad by any means, but not an advantage IMO.

9.) Conley has became a great PG. Him and Butler will take care of the ball and Conley has done a great job of penetrating and scoring some tough baskets when we needed them.

I agree...nice English :p

10a.) We went on the road and played in 4 of the toughest environments in the country, and you could tell that we grew from each one of those games, and have had some real close games, against UT, PSU, MSU, Purdue, NW, so they have been in tight situations and have found ways to win. The difference is that Florida had a veteran, Chris Leak, running their offense. We have a freshman, Mike Conley. Don't get me wrong, I think Conley is better at his position than Leak was, but Conley's lack of College postseason experience I think could be a negative. He is going to be facing tough defenses from other leagues with teams he's never seen before. Couple that with only 1 day to prepare for the 2nd game (assuming we win the first). That being said, I'd still take Conley in this position over about all but 5-6 PGs in the nation going into the tournament.

Don't mean to be a Nazi but that's funny. I agree with this point.

Good analysis CBF. You forgot to mention the fact that our wild and crazy home fans will be traveling and making the tournament arenas rock like the Schott :p

I could see us with a bad game going out in the second round but I think that's pretty unlikely. I say at least sweet 16 and beyond that is all determined by match ups. I think the team that scares me the most that would be outside the 1 or 2 seeds would be Memphis. Good depth and plenty of athletic big man who could be used to wear Oden down.

When money is involved I think a little more rationally, but last year I had them in the final four and you see how that worked out for me.:(

I agree, although I think our senior leadership on the whole has been a weakness for us this year and is not going to help us out all that much come tourney time.

At times it has been lacking and yes Lewis has been struggling, but look at games at UNC and Wisky. Lewis and Harris stepped up at UNC and Butler brought us back at Wisky. Lewis also hit the game winner against UT. I am not saying it has been great, but if you look at Butler he has shown more emotion from MSU game on than I have seen him show since he was a frosh in high school. Also I think Lewis and Harris will step up come Sunday and on into tourney.

I agree, except that if Oden gets in foul trouble then we're going to need to give Twig minutes. It's my goal to play him as little as possible from here on out. No offense to him.

Yeah Twig will need to steal some minutes, but overall I think he has a done a good job of doing that. I know we arent going to agree here.:tongue2:

I disagree here. As a team we are shooting 69.8% at the line. It's not bad by any means, but not an advantage IMO.

Keep in mind the guy that gets the most free throws is Oden. He has improved on the season, but is still not the greatest, but I meant down the stretch of games if we have a lead, we should be able to ice the game with the guys in the back court...

The difference is that Florida had a veteran, Chris Leak, running their offense. We have a freshman, Mike Conley. Don't get me wrong, I think Conley is better at his position than Leak was, but Conley's lack of College postseason experience I think could be a negative. Well Leak was a guy that knocked on all year, much like say Lewis this year. Maybe we will see a different Lewis come tourney time. As for Conley being young, that is why it is great to have another PG on the floor at the same time, and honestly Conley is one of them rare talents, that even tho he is young, and has athletic ability it is mental game and his direction that gets the job done out there.

Good analysis CBF. You forgot to mention the fact that our wild and crazy home fans will be traveling and making the tournament arenas rock like the Schott :p

If we can get somewhere close to home our fans will travel, don't think they will be wild and crazy tho...:tongue2:
