NCAA Tournament, the field of 65

duke is going to have a cake walk (relative to other one-seeds).

They slotted them as the #2 overall #1, right? I missed the #1 tellings...that doesn't make much sense, I thought they'd get the last one...who plays the play-in game? I'm so confused...

...that in itself is scary, because I would put Duke as the 6th or 7th best team in the country...

Maybe the committee got tired of seeing a Duke-less Final Four...

The funniest thing about this is, I don't see a team in that bracket that Duke CAN'T beat if they get past their second round match-up. With that being said, Duke is the kind of team that consistently plays down to the opponent...so I wouldn't be surprised if Purdue-Hummel knocks 'em out early...

THINK ABOUT THIS:

Maybe the committee recognizes that Duke isn't as elite as they look...and they believe that this bracket is fairly balanced...

Georgia Tech lost to Dayton (who lost to Richmond), Georgia, Miami, Virginia and twice to Florida State (who we thumped). Oklahoma State lost to Tulsa, Rhode Island, Oklahoma and Texas Tech.

Both of them finished seventh in their conference standings.

I think some are giving them too much credit based on name recognition.

Do we have something to countervail the GPA?

If Illinois keeps playing well I look for them to go all the way - and for the Big Ten to win its third straight (and perhaps the final) NIT championship.

Then they can really talk some trash.

Hey guys, Gene Smith leading the way next year for NCAA

J/K

Heck, he'll have 96 teams, so hard decisions will be at a minimum.

There weren't many hard decisions with the current field. The only team I think that has a gripe about being left out is Virginia Tech.

The committee doesn't have a problem getting the field right, but arranging those teams within the field is kicking their ass. That problem won't go away by expanding the field.

This guy's justification for Duke over Syracuse is EMPTY.

Essentially, it's that Duke finished better by winning their conference tourny, even though he's REPEATEDLY said in the past that the way you finish at the end of the year doesn't matter, and that it is the entire body of work that controls. Simply put, if that were true, Syracuse is ranked ahead of Duke, and probably West Virginia, too.
