NCAA Football 10 (PS3) BP Super Conference

While fanatic finishes up his slaughter of Ohio State, I thought that I'd throw a couple of observations out there.

  1. USC is a stacked team.
  2. fanatic has become a far superior player to me, due to his experience in user games. I would suggest that everyone abandon the "practice" feature, and start playing more people outside of the OD.
  3. Gameplanning for road games means dick.
    • Want to play a conservative game, and make sure that you hold onto the ball? Too bad. Three restarts...two momentum crushing fumbles. I had the opportunity to take at least a 10-0 lead during the 2nd restart, and Saine fumbles on what appeared to be a standard form tackle. During the 3rd restart, Martin fumbled on a FB Dive, before I even got the drive started.
    • Want to make sure that your guys wrap up, and you set your gameplan for them to do so? Too bad. A cpu controlled DB, with no help, goes for the big hit on a much bigger receiver, misses the tackle and the receiver could have crawled into the endzone.
  4. The rest of the 31-3 first half lead, when I decided to get a shower and get ready for work, was all fanatic. Even the one handed interception was ridiculous, but due to pressure and me throwing a bad ball.
In conclusion.
  1. fanatic is very good...like, Tiger Woods good.
  2. I need to get better.
  3. Gameplanning only gives negative results when playing on the road.
Thanks for the compliments of my nerdery skills, but USC is just that good. Not me. The dumbest thing in the world is the best defense against the Flexbone is the Dime. I dont know why (excusing the dominate USC DL), but in the online games I have played that is what has been my best option. I Supersimmed the rest of the game after I scored to make it 38-3 because everytime I passed, even on 3rd and 6 I was going to get dinged for running it up. I think the final score was 48-26 or something close like that. As for the gameplanning, home-field advantage can be very dominate and the stripping the ball feature is worthless. Even if you gain 2 fumbles a game, you'll extend 5 drives at minimum with face-mask penalties.

That makes the flexbone completely unusable. Part of the trickiness is that I had learned to pass pretty effectively from the flexbone, and that kept people honest against the run. The dime negates everything. Looks like I'll be going back to the air force playbook with both teams. The option is cool and all, but I'm not sure if the flexbone is sustainable through recruiting, and it doesn't offer a power running game against the dime. Although, the first time we really got started I was able to run right at you. By the third start, I was down 17-0 before I knew it, and tried to score a 14 point TD by passing more than I should have. The speed option pass is dead to me. I've only run it a couple of times against human opponents, and both Basebuck and fanatic got me for 10+ yard sacks.

The first game I tried 4-4, but there is not an effective contain and qb spy, so it's easy to hit the edge or if I compensate, find creases.

Another thing I like about this game is the line play is important, in 09, my BYU line was bad but I would still run like crazy and hb's could translate to DE fairly well and easily.

Fanatic is strong this year. There is always someone that jumps to the front of the pack when the game is released. Last year it was buchtel dominating the first two seasons. Although, fanatic is argubaly the best player anyway so we may be in trouble. I wish I would have known about the keys before I played Fanatic. He still would have beat me but I would like a better gauge where I'm at.

IBI, like I PM'd you, I would scrap the flexbone. With the keys its too easy to attack defensively. You MUST be balanced in this game.

Also, agree with playing online opponents. It makes a world of difference. Strangely this game feels and plays completely different when playing the CPU vs. a User.

My theory on these games is this.. . you can only get so good at these games before you peak/start to regress. Some people have had lots of time to play the game already, others have been busy. I feel like I just now have started to get a feel for the game. It taken me about 15 games (the only games I've played have been in the dynasty's) to get some money plays and settle on a playbook. I would expect things to even out during the second season.

On a side not, I'm looking forward the USC - Miami game. WHOBE seems to be dominanat so far. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Miami QB Bly... I mean Harris... has something to do with that.

Other than that it seems like the rest of us are pretty much even.

I don't know. Whobe beat a CPU controlled Texas, and barely squeaked by my suckass, at home, and his starting QB is still out for several more weeks.

as a person who likes to run the ball a lot, I hate the damn keys

I love them but I always throw more than I run. Also, I don't get beat to death up the middle against you! During out first game I didnt know about the keys. I found out about them in between the times we played.

Overall, I think the keys completely disable cheesing which is a good thing in my book

I had no idea it was a CPU controlled UT team. I thought he beat Mania by 30 and was very surprised.

 im sure you recall the Big 12 championship (year 3 of the dynasty I think?) on 09, where I took my 6-6 Colorado team and just pounded it all game and upset you

those days are gone though, now I have to attempt to pass the ball, which I still suck at

I swear man, that game still bugs me. I was absolutely loaded that year. That team was better than the next years team that won the championship. That was the most frustrating gaming experience of my life.
You would get 3-5 yards every single carry no matter what defense I would run. That game is the reason I love the keys.

The keys are the reason I scrapped the Flexbone for my Army team. I use the Air Force playbook so I can still have some plays out of it if I want, but the defensive keys just killed it as a stand-alone playbook.

That's what I told Iron after we played. You can just key on motion and then protect the backside with the playcall. Without the threat of a serious passing game it would have become pretty easy to stop
