NCAA cites Kansas for 'lack of institutional control'

Just goes to show ya, even with a historic BBall program, what goes on in Manhatten, KS just isn't as big news as what happens in Columbus.
The Jayhawks are in Lawrence.

I understand that there has been no "Clarrett-type" figure in this on the Kansas side to whip up media attention, but my opinion is that this is yet another case that proves a media bias against Ohio State.

Some guy went around to a lot of SCOUT.com sites and asked fans whether they felt the media treated their program fairly. Nearly every fanbase responded that the media was biased against them.

Does it really matter if Coach Williams allowed players to receive gifts after they've used all their eligibility? I see little difference between that and players signing with agents once they're out of eligibility. It's not like he was giving them to recruits...

Ummm, yes. "Come to Kansas, you've got a nice paycheck waiting when you leave school." Basically deferred compensation. I know the dollar amounts weren't high, but the potential for abuse is very high.

No it doesn't matter in my opinion, and I agree with what you are saying. This story leaked quite a while ago--this is not the first mention of it. Roy didn't know he was doing anything wrong. Common sense says that he didn't do anything wrong. Once Kansas found out the gifts were considered to be wrong, they investigated and took proper action.

I wouldn't wish the bullshit that Ohio State had to go through on any other school.

I'm surprised that nobody pointed out that 'lack of institutional control' has apparently resulted in 2 years probation for Kansas, while the lesser 'failure to monitor' situation got tOSU 3 years of probation.

I don't think the NCAA is done yet.

O I thought they were. Why would they but them on probation b4 any rulings come out???

Also if not for BP I wouldnt of even heard of this story and I am pretty fixated on Espn and I just watched the Jordan roundball classic today and not a word was even mentioned about it and they were talking about Kansas alot and how great they are going to be next year with all the guys they have coming back.

I think they have their pound of flesh from tOSU.

The only penalties so far (including probation) are what Kansas self-imposed. Now they have to meet the NCAA to see if more penalties will be added.

Which means that more will be added, the bar having been set relatively high on a lesser offense by Ohio State's treatment from the NCAA.

Ok, I must have misunderstood,

The NCAA said Kansas "demonstrated a failure to exert a lack of appropriate institutional control"

This led me to belive that the NCAA was the one that did the punishing thinking that they had already figured out the punishment.

If I remember correctly the NCAA never came out and said that we had lack of insitutional control after all the things came under investigation?? They investigated and then handed out punishment.

I guess I am just really confused on how the NCAA is handling this.
