NCAA CFB Regulations Discussion

muffler dragon

Bien. Bien chiludo.
On the Sports Radio station that I listen to daily during the work week, a common theme has come up very frequently lately. In short, this theme is, "College Football (and College Basketball) are not amateur sports." The main proponent of this thought is that the NCAA is making a profit off of the marketing of its product many different ways (equipment, retail sales, video games, etc) and the athletes are not getting compensated enough for it. This commentator was a lineman at BYU and played some pro ball.

Anyway... I wanted to start a thread to get other peoples thoughts on this and other topics that involve the NCAA as an entity. Its ineptitude, its positives, its negatives, etc.

I do admit that I had been a firm believer that a young man playing football gets enough by receiving a free education; however, that opinion is changing. The NCAA can make thousands (if not millions) off of a young man playing football; however, if he accepts a meal from a donor; then he gets the hammer thrown down on him.

Then we have the recent Michigan event with regard to hours of practice and such. We know the "law" is bullshit. We know it gets disregarded. But it's kept in place for who knows what reason.

Another thought that has come up on the show is that there should be a separate entity to oversee CFB and CBB. That way, the NCAA can go about it's business in the non-revenue creating sports and something else can come in and operate better on the ones that do.

Any thoughts on the matters?
