Honestly, there are maybe five centers in all of college basketball with the Athleticism of Samuels. It will be extremely odd for Mullens to match up with players like that at center. Most of the time, Mullens will be stronger, bigger, and likely even more athletic than his opposing center.

I mean, coming out below Samuels is hardly something to be down about.

Keep in mind that it was reported the day prior to the Mullens/Samuels match-up that Samuels matched-up with Yancey Gates and by all reports Gates came out on top.

IMO Mullens will be a big body in the paint with more athleticism than twigs, and thats a good thing on both sides of the ball.

Mullens is more than a big body...

He has great hands for a big man to grap rebounds and passes out of the air...

He has good post moves around the basket, he is working on the jumper and from most reports it is developing nicely...

Also he is going to be a stopper on defense...

If all you are expecting is a big body with more athleticism than Twig you are going to be drastically suprised...Guys like Mullens don't come around all the time...

Actually I have been axiously awaiting the on court arrival of Mr. Mullens with anticipation and some excitement. I have always thought that he will be a good one. Matta was on his main "gettem" roll right about then so I expect he wasn't picking any bench sitters just for the heck of it.
After all I expect any Buckeye to be a world setter

my point was that most likely mullens at theosu wouldnt guard samuels. he might be a center but hes not a 5. the ville doesnt play a typical 1 through 5. the matchup would likely go to the 4. you wont see many teams going to lineups like that. remember the memphis game? two things stick out to me, cook and odens play. sure oden had foul trouble but the man averaged just shy of a point a minute...

That's another key point to remember about these camps. A lot of these composed teams don't resemble what an actual team looks like. Sometimes you'll have two or even three centers on a team, while other times you'll have four powerforwards and no centers, so a lot of these matchups are determined not by the natural position of the players, but rather by a limited player pool.

Someone above mentioned Gates taking it to Samuels, and that's to be expected. Gates is an extremely athletic four with a good shot. Samuals is a low post banger in the mold of Lauderdale. I'd expect Gates to be able to outwork the post in that situation.

You also have to remember that guards and wings are often vastly ahead of post players at this stage of development, especially for really tall players like Mullens since his muscle development and conditioning aren't going to be as high as players shorter than he is. Give him a few years to catch up in terms of body development, and I'll take Mullens everytime in that matchup.

I agree with you about this for those same reasons.
So the question is Who will?

disagree, samuels isnt as big as dallas, nor the banger, he has more quckness though.

in mullens case i disagree, the kid has a body no questions. conditioning is an issue for sure for a kid who is hurt.

depends on all the match ups on the floor. im not a fan of dictating a lineup of a on b. basketball is a team game, matta is learning this. one of the things we have begun to see as he has developed as a coach. basketball is a game of mismatches. the ability to dictate the game and be proactive in creating mismatches is huge. very rarely at a high level do you dictate player a on player b. im partial to looking up and down the roster of both teams and what the opposing coach has on the floor and creating mismatches not countering the other coaches moves.
