NBA Finals - Celtics vs. Lakers

The same people that were saying that and calling Boston frauds were also saying that Boston was going to get whipped on by Detroit who had been sitting at home and waiting on the Celtics...See where that got them...

I am curious to hear some suggestion on how to handle the big 3...Honestly I think that the Cavs matched up better defensively against the Celtics than the Lakers...

La has a D

Boston D is suspect. The big 3 can not save every quarter for ya.

Ray Allen was throwing up bricks until the last game, go figure and with pressure on him , he breaks.

I think that the Zen master will know how to handle the Big 3.

Home court is the onltything saving Boston but don't hold your breath:wink:

Really, it comes down to this, can Pao handle Garnett? If not, it's going to get ugly, any fan can see that, the reality is that Allen and Kobe is going to be a wash, Odom and Pierce is going to be a tough matchup, but if both have good nights it will be a great matchup, Odom can defend, somehow he has this reputation of not being able to. Also, people forget that Derrick fisher is there and he's going to be a lot more than Rondo can handle, Derron Williams is a lot better than Rondo and D-Fish did a great job keeping him under control.

The Beat LA chant in Boston might haunt them, because None, I mean None finals experience and cracking under presure is what Atl did to them and took it to Boston. Cleveland is supposed to be in the finals.

Beat LA chant is just old, period. It's almost funny to me to hear it now, the reality is that the Lakers have one great aspect to them, ownership. Buss doesn't own a big corporation, he doesn't own a ton of investments, and the Lakers aren't just another thing for him to have, that's his company, and his Legacy and he treats it is one.

Compare LA and ATL/Cleveland and come back to me later on that.

Not a fair comparison to be honest, Atlanta and Cleveland aren't big market NBA teams, and more than any other sport, the NBA is dominated by large market teams.

Speaking Defense not big market or salary cap stuff. Just good ole D-fense.

As a Lakers fan, their defense frustrates me, they can defend, hell, look at the Spurs series, they could give them 20 point leads and just stop them the rest of the game, the problem is, they get stupid and forget to play it.

This series is, imo, going to come down to role players and bench play. I posted the numbers in another thread, both teams key three players have similiar numbers, both can put up points, and both have great defenses. The other harsh reality is this, what you have seem from the playoffs isn't really these two teams. Both Boston and LA play down to their competition, honestly, I think Boston may have the advantage in this series, but the Lakers have the coach, and that may be the difference maker.

We'll see, it should be a great series. Boston has older players that need to win now, the Lakers are young, and are going to be a threat for a long time, both teams have hungry players who would love to have an off season they could call a success, because here's reality for these two teams, anything but an nba championship is a complete failure of a season. No one in LA looks at the 2004 season and goes "well, they win the west" no, we look at it and go "they failed, time for change."

The Lakers are making their fifth Finals appearance this decade. Amazingly, that's not even in the top two for Lakers' Finals appearances by decade. They made eight appearances in the '80s (missing only in '81 and '86) and six appearances in the '60s (losing all 6).

Kobe Bryant becomes the fifth reigning MVP since 1998 to advance to the NBA Finals. After the MVP reaches the Finals they are almost automatic to win the title, cough cough with only Allen Iverson being on the losing end in the past 10 years.

The Celtics swept the season series 2-0 against the Lakers, winning by an average of 16 points. The Lakers did not have Pau Gasol for either matchup during the season, which the regular season they do not play as hard as they would in the finals:biggrin:

You know the Lakers better than me, but I thought Kobe would guard Paul Pierce.

Lamar on Kendrick Perkins.

Pau takes KG, but if Lamar comes out guarding Pierce who defends Perkins in the starting 5?

Radmonovich can gurad Allen...Ray hasn't done anything in half court sets...hell, Wally shut him down. Ray gets all of his points in transition when he can drift off of the penetration on a break. Using Kobe on him sems like waste of defense.

I think Rondo is quick enough to get into the lane against anyoone in the league. His shot is so inconsistent though. He gets into the lane most of the tome because his defender hangs out under the hoop daring him to shoot it.

I think the series will come down to who has to adjust for the other teams starting 5. If LA can rebound with Pau and Lamar, Boston is in trouble. Who defends Lamar at the PF position? If LA gets pounded b/c they can't handle the beef of Perkins and KG and have to play Turiaf numerous minutes more than they want it will be interesting.

In the playoffs, Boston has led the NBA in team defense. Conversely, only four teams have allowed more ppg than the Lakers. LA leads the league in offense, in the playoffs.

Boston was second in the league in team defense during the season. LA was 19th.

You're using one first round series as evidence. I'm using the entire season, including the playoffs.

Also, that does nothing to support your claim that "LA has a D", while their stats suggest it is, shall we say, "suspect".

Thee regular season isn't the burden of proof cause reg season is garbage when it comes to intensity.
The Cavs took it to them and not putting down Lebon but IMO Kobe is a better player and LA has a better team on D and offense than Cleveland or ATL.

So we can discuss this for many pages. Just like me, I put my vcash up:banger:
