National officiating for NCAA football referees?

I think having regional refs not allied with conferences would reduce the appearance of (and maybe actual) conflicts of interest in games; since the refs wouldn't be employees of the conference that stands to benefit from having its marquee team win.

I agree with your last line, and think that eliminating conference affiliations of the refs would help to minimize it.

so how would you handle the osu v usc game? where does the crew come from? the home teams region?

do you really want crews doing owu @ capital one week and osu @ um the next? (or substitute another low level (such as ohio valley, mac, etc)

They could assign more experienced officials to high-profile games - but mixing football divisions isn't something that I believe is part of the plan, so I think your scenario is poorly contrived, in an attempt to discredit the idea.
