National Letter of Intent Program - Changes Real & Possible

sandgk

Watson, Crick & A Twist
The NCAA has taken over responsibility for management of the National Letter of Intent program as of 10/15/2007.

One thing this may also open up is the option for an early signing period in the future.

The NCAA said it will not change the process between institutions and recruits or schools and their conferences, but that questions regarding letters of intent will go through the NCAA eligibility center.
By giving the NCAA control, there could be additional changes such as the possibility of adding an early signing period in football.

Basketball already has an early signing period, correct?

I think an early signing period would be a very good thing for College Football

I take it that is an early signing that would not be changable after signing.

A good thing if you are sure, possibly bad if your coach quits or is fired after you sign early. They should have some "out" for that, to fair to the kids.

An early signing period would help smaller/weaker schools. Look at Miami this year. If they sign all the kids they currently have committed I will shit a duck. But with an early signing period, most of these kids would be locked in to playing there. Early signing period would kill UM, who excels at "stealing" (dont necessarily mean this in a bad way) committed recruits away from schools late in the process.
