I bet there are some good explanations in the reason for this thread, the link above. It could be a decoy, leaving dumbledore dead gives them quite a good ace in the hole.

This was book six, IIRC. There are a lot more books left to have no dumbledore around. Who exactly is going to train harry?

The plan has always been just seven books.

Likely Dumbledore is dead. His painting frame is now hanging in the headmaster's office. From there, he will be able to control the resistance against Voldemort. Notice the people in paintings bounce from frame to frame at will. Dumbledore will be able to do the same. He will be everywhere.

Snape is not one of the bad guys. He did as he was told by Dumbledore and as he was required by his oath to Malfoy's mother.

Snape is a mole. By the end of book seven, Draco Malfoy will be a good guy. He couldn't bring himself to kill Dumbledore. Its not in him.
