I might be making a set today actually...very nice BKB. How did you paint with that precision?
What I did:
Figured out what was the max size I could put on the board whilst keeping it to scale (I could have used the whole board, but the field would have been too wide, compared to length.)
Got the dimensions to a football field so I knew where the hash marks were, the numbers, and etc.
Then, I brought up an Excel spreadsheet and changed the column width and row height so as to represent 1/8 inch squares. Converted the "real" dimensions to 1/8 scale and drew the field out using the "Boarders" function.
Then, I got different angles and pic from the Stadium, and more or less eyeballed where the "OHIO STATE" and "BUCKEYES" began with respect to the yard line numbers. Centered it. Figured out how big each letter neeeded to be (Fucked up on the "O"s as they should be more circular.) and sectioned off squares for each letter and the space between Ohio and State. Figured out where the Block O is and how it looks (that is, it doesn't quite touch the 50, in real life) and drew it out. Paid attention to whcih 5 yard group was light green and whcih were dark.... I think that's about it design wise.
Then, when it came time to paint, I taped off the different greens, painted em (twice). Then, I was gonna tape off again to do the yard lines and side lines and such, but had a paint peeling problem, so I just freehanded them. Was able to figure out how to tape without peeling for the hash marks as well as the yard markers on the sidelines. Oh... forgot, did the endzones for the one that has em Scarlet and Grey.. they're just the same green sequence in the other, obviously.
Painted the block O free hand. Painted the letters freehand - keeping the spacing calculation(s) in mind. (Drew em on the board in pencil, first) painted em the appropriate color, then went back and put the red (or in the case of the "Buckeyes" endzone on the way I'd do it board) outline thingies on freehand. I shouldhave used white outside of the Red lines I just described, but cest la vie.
Painted the yard numbers freehand as well. Decided not to do arrows, as my brush isn't that fine and I didn't feel like taping off 18 little triangles.
That's pretty much it.
