My First Game....FINALLY!!

I'm a life-long Buckeyes fan living in the great state of GA. Needless to say its an expensive chore to get to Columbus for a weekend to see a football game. Well it's finally going to happen. My dad (who is also a huge fan and it'll be his first game as well) and I are going to make it happen this Fall. I know it's going to be an awesome father/son trip that'll be an amazing experience. I've just got a few questions about tickets....

First, when is the best time to buy and where from. The online vendors (stubhub, etc) have tickets now, but is it best to wait till closer to the season to get a better deal or do prices only go up. Just wondering what my best bet is. I would like to have them in advance so we can plan a flight and hotel. We're looking at either Indiana or Penn State most likely.

What section to sit in. Our budget is fairly limited. Probably can't afford AA seats on the 30 yard line. I've read that B level is hit or miss due to obstructions and C level is really fun and a great view despite the altitude. Is this true? Any suggestions?

Last but not least, what to on game day? Tailgating, Skull session, etc. The PSU game is night so we might have time to do a little bit of everything, the Indiana game might be a little limited. Just wondering what the necessities are. Obviously we won't have the available resources for our own tailgate, but I know at UGA games it doesn't matter if you know the people or not, you're family (if you're a home team fan...I'm not of UGA and take alot of heat for it all in good fun, though). I assume its pretty much the same for home games in C-Bus.

Sorry for the long post but I am pumped and just looking for some help. I know its barely May and I'll probably be bumping this thread closer to the season, but figured I'd get started early on preparations.

All are good seats except for the obstructed B deck seats.

This is about as far away as possible from the field as you can get on C-Deck

Regarding when to buy, that all depends on which game you're going to. Premeire teams, get them now.

Skull Session is definitely a must. Haven't really tailgated so I'll leave that for other people to talk about.

Thanks for the tips guys. We've decided to go to the Penn State game. Really excited about a prime time night game...hopefully undefeated still. I almost bought 2 tix in 19C row 17, but dang I was not aware of the service charge imposed for these games. I think I might wait till later in the summer or early fall and try to find some on ebay or find some here. I'd liek to get them early, but really don't want to add $100 to the price just in service fees.

Let me know if anyone has any other ideas as far as getting tix.

Got my tickets in the mail....4th row in the section above. I couldn't be happier. We are driving half-way from Georgia on Friday night and will drive the last couple hours on Saturday morning and hope to be there by around noon and staying the night. Now here comes the important questions. I know most of them have probably been answered somewhere but there are still a few I have.

We would like to attend the skull session and I know when it starts and when to arrive but my question is how long does it last? We obviously want to be able to see the band come into the stadium and see script Ohio before the game. Can we see the skull session and still be in our seats to see the pre-game festivities. Also, I've seen some people complain about certain gates to use and not use. Any suggesstions with that?

We would also like to walk around some and take in the game day environment. My dad's not a big drinker or partier by any means but we would like to walk around try some food or tailgates. What would be our best bet for that.

Man, that's alot of questions. I'm gonna have to make an itinerary for the day. Thanks in advance for any advice. I'm so pumped October 26th.

the band is at skull session, and you'll be leaving St. Johns long before the band does. You'll be fine. I've never had any issues with any gate I've gone through. Probably the best tailgating I've seen is usually on Woody Hayes Dr. between Fyffe Rd and Olentangy River Rd.
