My buddy's house burnt down...

I spoke with Terry this morning. He said that they are doing well. Apparently, the Capital City FOP lodge worked out something with Target and Walmart and they were able to get plenty of clothes for all of his family. His kids are having some issues that I won't go into, but for the most part, they are getting along.

Thanks to everybody who offered up clothing, etc... The sentiments were passed on and he appreciates it.

Damn man....... That is absolutely horrible. It kind of puts everything into perspective, ya know? Sometimes you think that your job sucks, or your life sucks, or that things aren't going as you once planned them. Suddenly, it seems like you run across something like this and snap back to reality. Life has a way of grounding all of us. I'm glad to hear that your friend and his family made it out ok. You can replace materials........but fortunately your friend still has his family. My prayers go out to him, and to those who are helping him out in this time of need.

just a thought but should we set up a fund here and keep it open for a week or so then at the end of that time make a lump contribution under the name BuckeyePlanet?

Anything you guys want to do would be great.

For the National City Fund, you have to put the following:

Account under Joe Vincent for the Terry Williams Fund.
Last four numbers on the account are 0536.

Thanks so much to everyone.

My house burned down last May...most devastating months of my time on earth were the days spent trying to get the my family's life back to normal after the loss.

I can't tell you guys what it was like, but I can tell you what gestures meant the most to my family.

Close friends bringing us photos with my family in them made us grateful to the point of tears.

Clothing and food was always incredibly moving.

The biggest thing was when people would do something days and weeks after the fire. The first week was a barrage of thoughts and gestures, but then everyone goes back to their routine. Right about the time the enormity of what was in front of us sunk in was the same time most people stopped dropping by with food or just comforting thoughts. The people that stayed by us, or thought of us, or just stopped by to say hello weeks after the fire meant the most to us and truly restored our faith in humanity.

Do what you can now, but try and remember them and do things for them in the months ahead as well. It is great to donate money now...but this is not going to be a quick thing for them..they are going to be dealing with this for a long time.

Would be great to arrange some OSU tickets (for any event) for the family to do something together and get out of the situation, even if only for a little while. They won't likely be able to do something like that until late March or April...but maybe we could even direct some of the monies toward a set of football tickets or something for them to look forward to. If they are not buckeye fans...then something else. Movie tickets, passes to the zoo...whatever...something to break the routine and give them a break together.

And my heart-most prayers to the family. Thank goodness everyone is safe...and that will provide them with tremendous solace as they work through the months ahead. Strength and patience to them...and hopefully they will be able to understand the worst is over and everyone will be OK as they work through it.

Hug somebody close to you and do something for this family...I can not convey to you how awful this process is. BUT they will get through it together and it will eventually become a story they tell rather than a hell they endure...esp. since everyone in the family is safe. The more people stay with them and the longer they receive thoughts and support the quicker it becomes a story and the pain of it begins to fade.

God bless those children....

EDIT: By the way, a friend of mine wrote the Cincy Reds a letter (the fellow is a huge Reds fan...so I guess he didn't think to contact OSU...but no matter) telling them what my son was going through and they sent him a great care package of Reds memorabilia.

I don't know what these children enjoy, but I suspect where ever their interests lie there is someone willing to make a gesture. A simple letter on the kid's behalf might really brighten their spirits if it provides any response.

Maybe Buckin' A could provide some insight on things that would bring a little joy to these kid's day. I have 2 tickets to the OSU - Wisky game. I was very excited about going but I would have a much better time if I knew maybe the father and one of his kids were there enjoying a couple of hours of OSU basketball.
