This may deserve it's own thread, but aside from AIM, what does everyone use to, umm, local music  anymore? I know Kazaa sucks, suprnova.org got shut down so bittorrent is tougher to do, I have tried exeem, and it isn't very good at least at this point... any suggestions?

DCC via IRC is the most fool-proof way, always has been, always will be. Plus, if you moderate your own channel as invite only, or run the server, you can screen all your participants to keep things well hidden from "The Man"(tm). NEVER use file sharing services like Kazaa ... just don't.

I've been working in the ISP industry since 1995, and prior to that I ran BBSes in Central Ohio. IRC has been where "the crews" have run ever since they traded in their Amigas for 386's and got on the 'Net.

DCBuckFan, download mIRC (http://www.mirc.com/), install it, then use it to connect to psychotic.phazenet.com and join the channel #mp3albums [e.g. /join #mp3albums]. You shouldn't need to lurk for about 10 minutes and watch what other people type to get an idea of how it works.

If you're inclined to share yourself, which you will often need to do to download from some of the larger collections, you can add an mIRC 'bot' that will handle indexing the directories on your PC you want to share and timing the advertisements to prompt people to download. SpR Jukebox (http://www.surf.to/spr) and ^OmeN^ (http://www.omenscripts.org/omenserve/) are the most popular.

I use Soulseek. I migrated there from Kazaa Lite. Soulseek has no adware or spyware, I never get bad files, and everything is organized fairly well. The drawbacks are that it's slow and not comprehensive.
