Fine Comes To $144

LINCOLN, Neb. -- An ABC sportscaster was ticketed by Lincoln police after Saturday's Nebraska football game.
Play-by-play announcer Brent Musburger had just finished calling the Huskers' game against Pittsburgh when he was cited near Memorial Stadium. Lincoln police said he was cited for consuming alcohol in public and having an open container in his car.
At 6:10 p.m., Musburger was riding down Ninth Street in a rental car after the game headed toward a crosswalk near Ninth and T streets. A viewer of Nebraska television station KETV said a Lincoln police officer directing traffic stopped the car Musburger was riding in to let fans exiting the stadium get through the crosswalk.
The witness, who snapped photos of the rental car, said the officer waited for the fans to clear, then ordered the driver of the car to pull over just south of the crosswalk. Another officer then arrived and ticketed Musburger, who was sitting in the front passenger seat. Police said Musberger had been drinking from an open can of beer.
The witness said he saw other passengers in the car with alcohol, but Lincoln police said only Musburger was cited. Musburger was not arrested in the incident.
If he chooses not to contest it in court, his citation for consuming alcohol in public and having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle comes with a fine of $144.
The driver was not drinking.
ABC Sports did not return calls seeking comment.
Lincoln police said that several people were cited near the stadium for similar alcohol offenses Saturday.
