More proof that "American Idol" fans are losers...

American Idol is good for the first few episodes when they show all the auditions... It's popular for young kids and some of the older crowd, but I don't think I'd call them losers for watching.

Your thoughtful reply has made me reconsider. I should have immediately looked at the ratings and known what an important show I was missing in favor of reading a book and set my Tivo to record it at once.

History has shown time and time again that horrible shows are never popular in America. Americans tend to tune in to only quality programming like "Friends", "Dr. Phil", "Dancing with the Stars", and the thought-provoking beast that is "American Idol" (guess what? Americans tend to do the same thing in their music and movie listening and viewing habits as well). Pardon me for my ignorance, but that's what you get when you read some stupid history book instead of watching "talented" people sing kareokee.

There are a lot of losers and stupid people around. Look at best seller lists for books. How many are crappy romance or mystery novels? How many self help books from obese morons who can't even take care of themselves?

I'm not surprised American Idol is popular any more than I was surprised Survivor was. Stupid people are in abundance.

Its popularity is something which I must admit, I simply don't understand. Watching the 1st few weeks I can kinda get, since I enjoy laughing at other people's shortcoming as much as the next guy, but beyond that, I don't get the facination....

But then, I gave up on "reality" TV a long long time ago (well, not real reality tv, ie sports, but "reality" shows that aren't based on reality)...

The average American can at least spell "karaoke".

What's the phrase? 10 billion Chinamen can't be wrong..

And when you're the odd man out because you just "don't get it", you have to find a way to belittle the show and its viewers to make yourself feel better. It can't be you. It has to be the 50 million other people who watch the show that are stupid and brainwashed. That must be it. You're way too cool and intelligent to watch that trash.

That superior intellect and coolness also prevents you from reading Harry Potter or watching Survivor, or enjoying the Star Wars movies too, I'll bet.

The "average" American knows that 50 million Americans is not a majority of the country, so I do believe that you are the odd man out on this one.

It's a popular show, which doesn't make it great. Some people don't like it, but that doesn't make the people who do like it stupid. Who really cares...
