More carries: Wells or Pittman

do you think that pittman, or even 1 of our other guys has a chance on winning the heisman?
Pittman? Not a chance. The problem for Pittman is that he got no love from the national media last year, so there is no built-in hype going into this year. Pittman is one of the most accomplished returning RBs in the nation, and CFN just rated him, what, #22 among RBs?

The spotlight is on Troy, Teddy and to a degree, Chris Wells for 2006. Antonio Pittman is an afterthought, and I'm sure he'll draw motivation from that. It might get him 1500 yards or more, but not a Heisman.

Honestly, I don't think any OSU guys will win it this year, because there's this guy named Brady Quinn who plays for Notre Dame and Charlie Weis that might as well just go get fitted for his suit and clear off his mantle. When 2006 is over, we'll all know that Troy was the best player and MVP of the best team in college football, but if Notre Dame finishes no worse than 10-2, Quinn is going to win the Heisman anyway.

I think that when teams were able to stop Ohio State's passing game, stopping Pittman became easy.
what games are you referring to? Pittman averaged 4.2 yards a carry against Texas & Penn State... but didn't get the ball enough (Troy was busy running poor QB draws vs Texas).

only three, yes three, running backs have ever broken the 1,000 yard mark as sophomores in Ohio State history. they are Archie Griffin, Keith Byars, and Antonio Pittman. think about that for a second... now, considering the rarified air that Pitt elevated himself into last year, i can scarcely conceive that an incoming freshman could come in and actually be good enough to wrest away the top spot as the featured back.

now, in saying that, if, and it's a HUGE if, Beanie is good enough to come in and supplant a PROVEN All Big Ten Caliber running back as the featured back at Ohio State, then Archie might just have company in the 'Only Guy to win the Heisman Twice Club.'

Jwins stated that he thinks that Pitt is the guy in '06 and Beanie will be the guy in '07, and i tend to agree with that. because i think Pitt will be a NFL first round pick after this season.

i remember an old adage by a very smart coach; "It ain't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog." don't underestimate the Pitt bull. that kid has fight we havn't even seen yet.

I hope my bet wasn't taken as a sign of dissappointment with Pittman. He is an accompolished, certified OSU running back. He knows his blocking assignments, he doesn't put the ball on the floor, he can catch the outlet pass. I'm putting him down for 1K+ this season and if we didn't have such a mobile QB and receivers you've got to get the ball to I'd bet that Tress would do a Minnesota Double Barrelled shot gun attack with two 1K runners...

And I meant no disrespect to Mo Wells, but I see him as another Bam Childress, hard worker, spot player and look for Tressel to give him some trick plays to own and hone...

but I was really taken by Wells performance with the ball this spring... a high school senior playing against a Big 10 level defense... he misread a couple of keys that led to sacks... that won't be tolerated when Smith is taking snaps... but you had to see the power and speed he exhibited, he's going to be a very special, one a decade, kind of back and you just don't let that kind of talent sit on the pine. Pittman will continue to start and he'll get the ball lots, especially against NIU, UC, and BG. But I think Wells is going to pick up his blocking assignments. I'm guessing that the RB coach is working overtime to try and get him ready, and I think he's going to be the guy we try and get the ball to in running situations by the end of game 5. This is the back that will stop all the talk about Hart, Peterson and company.
