I'd like to understand this particular banning, if I may.

Goofy dings BB over a difference of opinion and calls him an idiot. BB retaliates with an anonymous ding with the "putrid" remark. Is BB being banned because his remark was more vicious and offensive than the idiot remark, or is he being banned because he used vulgarity while PMing a poster anomimously?

And, is this a lifetime ban? Just curious.

BB was banned because of things he said to me in PM and in my opinion he crossed the line. As far as I'm concerned he shouldn't be allowed to post here any more. Others disagree so I lifted the ban and from now on I'll let the powers that be handle things.

I see the chicklets are gone.

I do not agree with what BB did and his earlier "wussie" post makes it seem hypocritical.

I would hope that we can tolerate a diverse group of posters here. While I do not agree with some of BB's posts I find it strange and interesting that he has such a different perspective.

It would be boring here if we all agreed. I hope you would agree with that statement but if you don't you can't ding me now. :biggrin: Please don't ban me, it would drive my wife crazy.

Not sure because I haven't asked Clarity yet, but maybe the "chicklets" are gone temporarily under an upgrade. If you have noticed, no one can get past 11 chicklets. My rep points were right around 1400 or so when I hit 11 chicklets, and now I have way more than that with no change in chicklets. After a while, everyone will have the same amount of chicklets, completely negating the purpose of rep points.

I asked C-Dog about it and he confirmed that right now the system maxes out at 11. A possibility is to make a "gold" chicklet that worth 10 green ones, so once you hit 10 chicklets, you'd have one gold one instead. That way, instead of maxing out at 11 chicklets, you could theoretically go up to 110 worth (11 gold chicklets).

Grad, actually I never once thought of you. I had 2 posters in mind and that was it. We had buried the hatchet a long time ago and that is how I saw it. I didn't think you would stoop to that level at all.

as far as BB retaliating to the ding I gave him. I gave him a justified ding and left my name saying it was "idiotic" what he said...never really calling him a flat out idiot. He attacked me on the hurricane thread which is insane. If he's back that's fine but I don't see how letting him back in is gonna help anything at all nor do I think it's the "democratic" thing to do (no pun intended)

Disabling rep is probably a temporary measure. Clearly it's more than some folks can handle.

I don't have the answers, ability or time to make immediate improvements to it, so I decided to take it down at least for the time being as it's causing too many problems and headaches.

As far as BB's banning, he was banned, unbanned, and rebanned. Obviously we can't make up our minds. I'll touch base with the other mods and admins, I'll also trade a couple emails with Believer, and we'll figure out how to proceed from there. If people have feelings on this issue one way or another, they're welcome to PM me on it. I've always said I wanted bannings to be a last resort. Even in the case of LHM we tried a temp ban before going to a permanent. This is not to say his banning today wasn't justified, it is to say that things have to go pretty far for someone to drop a banning. Particularly a guy like Nutty who doesn't like taking a step like that.

We're 22 days until the season, let's not all lose our heads 3 weeks out. Let's also all be a little better about keeping ourselves in check. The political board definitely seems to cause some headaches here and there, but is the answer to delete it and ban discussions in that line? I don't think so. On the flip side, I can't wait for the election to come and go. There's a lot of unnecessary hostility there, and a lot of intolerance of other people's beliefs and positions.

I was very surprised by what BB told you, since he never used vulgarity in his posts before. If he is re-instated, I'd be curious to find out what prompted him to act so offensively. I also find it strange that he would ding so many posters without provocation.

Quite right, Clarity.... I can get just as fired up on the political threads as anyone.. Always gotta keep in mind it's just one guys (Or gals) opinion vs. yours. I think some people take it personal when someone attacks their source of Info.. (I'm not saying BB did that, or anything, just making an observation) God and Politics... not for the faint of heart..
