Marcus Washington’s new plan for his recruitment makes Ohio State’s path to sign him harder
By Ari Wasserman 3m ago
FRISCO, Texas — Four-star wide receiver Marcus Washington of St. Loius Trinity Catholic was a part of the huge official visitors expose Ohio State held last weekend surrounded by its Friday Night Lights camp. And in the week-plus since, the general expectation is that he would soon do what many of the other visitors from that weekend have already done: Commit to the Buckeyes.
Washington was originally supposed to announce his commitment on Aug. 7 in honor of his birthday. That’s not the plan anymore, and because of it the 6-foot-2, 193-pound prospect has opted for an entirely different recruitment. There are two types of recruitments:
Recruitment A: Take official visits over the spring and summer, commit before the senior season and go-all in helping your program of choice close out its recruiting class.
Recruitment B: Take visits over the spring and summer, delay your decision until after your senior season and take official visits to schools during college football’s regular season. Then at the end of the process, have an exciting announcement ceremony that has college football fans on the edge of their seats as National Signing Day approaches.
Washington was supposedly going to be in the bag for Ohio State by mid-August.
But now he’s chosen a “Recruitment B” path.
