I think it's semantics. No one thinks they don't "matter", the point about counting stats like that is the hitter in question has no control over coming up in a spot with runners on base or coming to bat with bases empty.I dont understand how analytics guys still say RBI's dont matter. Saw Keith Law say this and even put *RBIs* like that. In a league where everyone hits .240 and tries to hit a homer every pitch and striking out doesn't matter driving in a run actually does matter. I just watched the Reds fail to drive in runs like 1,000 times this season
I get your point. I just disagree. I think contact is now underrated and contact can lead to RBIs
