MLB General Discussion (Official Thread)

Ohtani decision supposed to happen today. Projected 60mm/year

He's probably going to be a Blue Jay.

Funniest part about this entire process is that Ohtani and his reps have EXPLICITLY requested details of meetings between teams and his representatives be kept totally silent. Dodgers Manager Dave Roberts gave an interview earlier in the week where he claimed his meeting with Ohtani went excellent, he feels confident he could really help his team and discussed his plans for his recovery and contributions. Essentially nuking his changes with LAD.

*Watch him now sign with LAD*

Meh....let him go to the Blue Jays....

Like the Yankees, they aren't addressing their main issue, which is pitching. The Blue Jays faded down the stretch last season as their starting pitching led to the bullpen being taxed too much.

Ultimately the team with the best pitching will win the AL East, which should be a bloodbath again this season.

I stole this from the Baseball Training Academy....let's see how many boxes Judge checks as a centerfielder...

Strong defensive skills - Decent in right field. Strong arm.
Excellent speed - while not a statue, he's not exactly a burner. Injury history could come into play here too.
Strong arm - Very strong arm as are most right fielder types.
Great vision and depth perception - Unknown. Stats say he is adequate.
A solid hitter - No doubt, although Judge isn't your typical centerfielder as a hitter.
Good leadership skills - Not much doubt here.
Athletic - for a huge dude he is very athletic, but centerfielders tend to be more like Kenny Lofton or Griffey (jr or sr) or Adam Jones body types. It would not shock me to learn he's the biggest centerfielder ever by height and weight. That will matter over 162 games.
A quick learner - No idea. But he's at the major league level.
Highly alert - Again no idea.

While he is a good fielder for a Right Fielder, in limited action in center over his career, he's been above average at best (and was decidedly not good last year, but it was a partial year with significant DL time).

The biggest question is will having much more ground to cover at a centerfielder cost him at the plate either through wear and tear or injuries. I can't imagine they won't have a plan to keep him at DH at various intervals, especially if Stanton is on the DL.
