my only quibble is i dont think you should be able to get strike 3 on a violation. thats just me and i wont bat an eye if that doesnt change

Agreed. I watch tennis which has a serve clock now but the good chair umpires know when to give some leeway. At crucial points, after a big rally, when the crowd is still settling/cheering, etc. the ump will be slow to start it or take it off the board if the player is at least approaching the serve line or stance.

I like the framework of the clock, but it doesn’t need to be rigid, especially on 2 strikes or when it gets to playoff time. Dangerous game to give a little, especially if one side thinks the other is pushing the limit. But it’s been a huge positive change so I don’t mind if there’s some pullback or leeway, imo.

And there’s always going to be bickering, it’s baseball

I love it. The game just moves so much more quickly. I'm less likely to be reading or looking at my phone during the game simply because it flows better which means I'm more involved and more likely to continue watching.

I'll disagree with the leeway in crucial situations, though. I don't want these dickhead umps having ANY subjectivity in applying the rules. The more chances they are given to apply an interpretation of the rules, the more likely we are to get wildly disparate rulings and outcomes. One game will end on a clock violation with a strict ump and another doesn't with a lax ump? No thank you! Much like swallowing whistles at the end of a basketball game, umps that "don't want to determine the outcome" determine the outcome just as much by not enforcing the rules.

Did a little digging and see Apple/MLB are using the Sony a7R with the Sony FE-24 70mm lense (dubbed the “Megalodon”), which was what FOX began using in 2020 for NFL games. It’s an ultra high res, shallow depth of field camera setup that has eye and face tracking that can auto focus on multiple points. It can be stunningly clear and sharp at multiple depths.

But Apple is further supplementing with Phantom high-speed cameras, which at the low end record at 9,300 fps. Basically the type of $100,000 camera you’d see on science shows like MythBusters to record bullets.
