As a White Sox fan, I check in on baseball about once every 3 or 4 years. The other day I saw they were like #2 with 3 or 4 days left. Life comes at you fast, I guess.

They struggled down the stretch, yes, but them falling to seven is partly due to this year's playoff format. MLB guaranteed the top two finishers in each division a top six seed (which is dumb, btw). That's how you end up with a 29-31 Astros team "earning" the six seed.
