Missouri 52 Illinois 42 (Final)

Missouri starting LB Alexander doubtful for opener vs. Illinois

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) -- As expected, it looks like Missouri will be without one key defensive player when the sixth-ranked Tigers open the season Saturday against No. 20 Illinois in St. Louis.

Senior linebacker Van Alexander is making good progress as he recovers from a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He was hurt during spring drills.

Alexander will travel with the team to the Edward Jones Dome, but coaches doubt he'll be on the field.

Alexander says he's right on schedule with the rehab. He's been practicing, although not at full speed.

Sophomore Luke Lambert will likely start in Alexander's place Saturday. Lambert had ten tackles and forced a fumble in the Tigers' 38-7 victory over Arkansas in the Cotton Bowl.

Missouri has pretty much everybody back on defense. They could be better on that side of the ball than people expect.

Then again, a repeat of last year wouldn't surprise me that much. I'm staying away from this one.

Illinois defense is playing pretty good thus far. they've forced a turnover, and held Missou to 10pts thus far.

Juice was struggling with the passing game but put together a couple good throws to put Illinois on the board but they missed the extra point. 10-6 missou's ball 11mins to go first half.

Yep, not a good day for the Big Ten. All the teams handles their cupcakes, but scUM (not surprisingly) failed against Utah, and MSU looks bad. At least Illinois is still in it.

Every time I watch Illinois I'm reminded that it is just complete random luck of the draw as to which team gets their perfect game every year, which team gets their bit spitting performance and how everyone else gets the undisciplined, erratic, just-let-them-beat-themselves Zookers.

I'm glad we drew our perfect game card last year, cuts down on the chances of getting it twice in a row.

Oh, while I'm all pissed off, I'm watching Minnesota have to come back in the 4th quarter against friggin Northern Illinois. We all know Minny blows...but come on...

While MSU is getting beat. they're beating themselves. They look better than Cal but they've stalled twice in the redzone with penalties, and had a punt blocked or a TD.

Illinois had the momentum and lead but then Maclin struck and Washington broke 12 tackles for a 40yard scamper.
