Mike Conley Sr / Darren McFadden

During the MSU / BC game, there was a scrolling news teaser about Arkansas looking into NCAA violations re: Darren Mcfadden and an SUV allegedly purchased by Conley Sr. (which he is denying)

the first time i saw the headline i only saw the last part of it, regarding Conley SR. and alledged NCAA violations, and i feared for the worst....i was incredibly relieved when it didn't involve tOSU.

Hopefully none of it is true anyway, he seems like a good guy

Arkansas probes report as TV station issues apology

Arkansas officials are looking into allegations that running back Darren McFadden received a car from an agent, as the agent and McFadden's father denied the report and the TV station that initially aired the story issued an apology.

The report alleged that McFadden had received a Cadillac Escalade, a luxury SUV, with the help of an agent, Mike Conley.

Graylon McFadden, Darren's father, insisted Friday that the reports were "a bold-faced lie," adding that the car belongs to McFadden's mother. The junior two-time Doak Walker Award winner has been borrowing the car, he said.

Conley, who said he does not represent McFadden and is not a certified football agent, also said the report was untrue. Conley is registered as an agent with the NBA and represents his son, Mike Conley Jr., and Greg Oden, who was the No. 1 overall draft pick in the 2007 NBA draft.

It looks like another side effect of the espin phenomenon, a Podunk, Ark sportscaster probably trying to get noticed by a so called national sports network decided to throw inuendo and rumor around hoping it would stick, just like a bunch of the espin reporters and writers.

Yeah - Podunk Arkansas was in celebration mode after the word came down.

Interesting...

CONLEY LANDS McFADDEN, JONES
A league source tells us that former Olympic triple-jumper Mike Conley has pulled an NFL two-bagger, reaching agreement to handle the marketing rights of Arkansas running backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.
Conley, who does not possess certification from the NFL Players Association to represent players in negotiations with NFL teams, is expected to steer both players toward a properly licensed contract agent of Conley's choice.

Surprising.

Was he in that stands eating popcorn at every Arkansas game? :roll1:

I assume you're aware that Conley ran track at Arkansas? Hogs have had one of the finest track and field programs in the NCAA for many years. Consequently it comes as no surprise to me that he has an "in" with Jones and McFadden.

LIKE IT IS : Conley?s good name sullied in Cadillac spat
By WALLY HALL
Published: Wednesday, February 06, 2008 PRINT E-MAIL

Mike Conley was in Chicago when he got a call saying there was a television report that placed him at a Cadillac dealership in Arkansas, and that he was helping Darren McFadden buy an Escalade.
?Honestly, I thought someone was playing a joke on me,? he said. ?Then I started getting more calls, and I knew something was wrong.
? When I called the TV station [KARK-TV ], they said they had two witnesses who saw me there,? said Conley, who received a personal and on-air apology from the station. ?I knew immediately what this was about. Someone was trying to hurt me with the McFadden family, who I was already close to.? As fast and athletic as Conley was ? he still holds the U. S. triple jump indoor record of 58 feet, 3. 25 inches ? he could not be in two places at once, and he had dozens of credible witnesses vouching that he was in the Windy City.
As executive director of World Sport Chicago, Conley was attending meetings there, where his group is trying to put together a bid to bring the Olympics to Chicago.

That's the first time I've seen something stating that the alleged Cadillac connection to Conley, Sr. was based on a misidentification of somebody at the car dealer, and that he had numerous witnesses to prove that he wasn't there.

His reputation has been damaged by the fact that the allegation was widely reported (ESPN ticker, and reports of the story on SportsCenter, etc.), while the retraction/apology received much less attention.

McFadden faces two paternity suits

Posted: Monday February 25, 2008 05:48AM ET

Darren McFadden created a major buzz at the NFL scouting combine when he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.27 seconds on Sunday. That's also where news got out that McFadden is not only battling a paternity suit, but that he told a team during an interview Saturday night that he has two children on the way. In addition to meeting with the Falcons, he met with the Raiders, who pick fourth in the draft, and several other teams.
