Gold Pants
Well, we are mid way through our regular season and following are some musings on The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly:

THE GOOD

1) Isn't it good to be an Ohio State Buckeye fan? IMO, there is no better University, no better traditions and no better history than that of our beloved Bucks!!

2) The Defense - This unit is VERY good and boardering on being potentially great if it continues to improve. The talent and depth on the DL compares to some of the other great DL this team has fielded over the years. Our LB's are playing stellar ball and our Secondary has risen to the occassion.

2) The Offensive Line - This group has improved significantly over last year and is going to be one of the strengths of next years team with Seniors Boren & Browning, and the Brew Crew maturing. Add Miller, Hall, Linsley and Mewhort to the mix and there is a lot to smile about along the Offensive front.

3) Brandon Saine - Now finally healthy, Brandon has given us cause to think he will only get better with more opportunities and has proved to be
a vital part of our Offense this year both running and recieving.

4) Recruiting - A few more pieces of the puzzle needs to come together, but all signs indicate another great year of recruiting for the good guys.

5) Back to back losses by TSUN. Lovin it!!!

THE BAD

1) The early season loss to USC. Our boys had the game in hand but let it slip away. Unfortunately, it adds to the stigma that we can't win the big game.

2) Aaron Pettrey's missed FG's that are usually sure bets. We need more consistency in the kicking game.

THE UGLY

1) The BIG ugly has been Terrell Pryor's inconsistency throughout the season. We have seen flashes of brillance, signs of what he can yet become as a passer, but we have seen just as many lapses where bad decision making has led to stalled drives, or worse yet, turnovers. Right now it seems like it is either hot or cold with Terrell. He either makes a great play or a poor play. Once he is able to eliminate the poor decision making and he continues to develop his mechanics, it is going to be quite a sight to see. He has all the tools to become one of the best ever at tOSU. He just needs to get the mental part down. It will come in time.

2) The fair weathered, myopic fans, who bitch & complain about any and everything under the sun. If it's not Bollman, it's Tress, if it's not Tress, it's Pryor. Some people are eternal pessimists, who will always find fault. The team could win by 35 points and this type of person will start a thread on "We Need Better Offensive Line Play" or "Field Goal Jim Is At It Again" or "How Come So & So Is Starting Over...."

This is not true of all fans, who have genuine critic, but do so with reason and tact. It is the truly unhappy, miserable folk, as Tress calls them, that make our fanbase appear UGLY and spoiled. This type of fan will always exist, so we will have to endure their moronic nonsense, but I for one am glad that we have a forum like BuckeyePlanet that won't allow that kind of $*&% to be posted around here.

Here's looking for another great season. Though at times frustrating, it has also been great fun.

:oh:

GO BUCKS!!

LOL I love living down here while Im finishing off my BA. Im a Bills fan so just winning is good enough but its funny hearing fans call in to bitch about 30-0 shutouts. I love the expectation of perfection, but some people are just plain 'nutty'.

Scarlet&Gray had a great thread starter here and i agree with it completely. Last year the Gators lost to "Ole Miss" for thier only loss but OMG you should have heard the re-action from all the gator fans. You talk about a spoiled fan base??? Wow..........the monday after the loss, the local sport media talk shows were very critical of Urban Myer and the way he handled the calling of the game. I could not believe what i was hearing.

Tim Tebow was in tears and apologizing to the gator nation for such a POOR showing of gator football, and he vowed, that would never happen again. I guess what i am trying to say here is that, basically college football fans all over the country are pretty much the same no matter where you go. Living here in Florida is great and when the Buckeyes lose, well it doesn't hurt that bad and i can get over it a day or so later. Then again how would i feel if i was living in Columbus? The only drawback about living down here is taking the heat from all the SEC fans about getting beat by the Gators and LSU Tigers for the national championship. That really sucks but i can handle it. Someday its going to be my turn to dish it out. "Go Bucks"

That certainly was the inspiration, along with Scout and ESPN.

If those folks had their say, we would bench Pryor, maybe even revoke his scholarship, bench half the offense, fire Tressel, fire Bollman, maybe fire Heacock too, fire Siciliano and maybe also several other position coaches, adopt a dozen new offensive strategies, and Lord knows what else.

Thankfully, they won't get their way.

BTW, what is it with tOSU fans and this overwhelming desire to bench the starting QB, from Bellisari to Zwick to Boeckman to Pryor?!

Major Questions

Major questions for the remaining six games of the regular season:

1. Can our Defense continue to play at the level we have seen over the first six weeks of play? And, can they get even better as we face Iowa, Penn State and TSUN?

2) What will the running game look like should BOOM continue to be sidelined with his ankle injury? Can Hall, Martin and maybe Berry provide a spark when Saine is taking a breather?

3) Will the OL step up with the new unit of Adams, Boren, Brewster, Browning and Shuggarts as starters, and Miller, Cordle and Hall now being able to provide backup help for the starting five?

4) Can Terrelle Pryor settle down, play within himself, and become the consistent field general we will need as we go down the stretch?

5) Will our kicking game find more consistency? Something we may very well need in possible close games with Iowa and Penn State.

6) Can the coaches find a way to help Pryor play to the best of his natural abilities, while at the same time developing him as a pocket passer? Are the two exclusive of one another?

7) How many more melt downs will RichRod have before we stomp the skunkbears into the ground up in the Pig House? Can you imagine what will happen to "little man tate" when Larimore burst through the line and swallows him up with his 300+ lb mass?

It's good to be a Buckeye!
