We need early '70s Deja Vu!
Michigan comes into The Game undefeated in conference play, looking for an outright Big Ten title. We're all-too-familiar with how they ruined our conference title hopes and overall seasons in the 1990s, but how about what we did to them in the early 1970s?
1970: Michigan is 9-0 coming into Columbus, having outscored opponents 279-70. We beat them 20-9 to win an outright Big Ten title.
1972: Michigan is 10-0 coming into Columbus, and we beat them 14-11 to share the title with them.
1973: Michigan is 10-0 when we invade the Pig House, and tie them 10-10 to again share the title with them.
1974: For the third straight time coming into Columbus, Michigan is undefeated on the season (10-0) and we beat them 12-10 to yet again share the title with them.
1975: For the second time in a row at the Pig House, we face a Michigan team undefeated in conference play, and beat them 21-14, this time to win the title outright.
As you can see, in five of the first six years in the 1970s, we faced a Michigan team that came into The Game undefeated in conference play and sent them away with neither an undefeated conference season nor outright title. A win by us this Saturday would yet again prevent them from winning the title outright, since the two current second place teams (Iowa and Wisconsin) have one conference loss each and play each other the same day.
