Michae"LLLL" Onwenu (OL New England Patriots)

Not really as impressed as I expected to be (based on rankings). Average first step, has difficulty shedding blocks, does not have that "freak" factor (almost looked in slow motion on that INT), has a tendency to hand fight and let his guy get into his body too early (same on offense), and really just does not create a great deal of disruption. I think he might have had weight issues this season (already listed at 320) because he just really did not move well. On offense it was worse...he had issues getting to the 2nd level, squarely engaging defenders, and no real punch. However, I could see him getting some Coach Mick time and becoming a solid 1-tech that eats gaps...just not a disruptive force.

Great points about his weight. He seems to be relying on his sheer size and power to beat his opponent, which is working at his level. He needs to play at 290 or 295 for his height and that weight needs to be Marotti type of weight. That lighter frame will increase his footspeed immediately and add in the technique and straightline speed and he could be a wrecking ball. I agree that his current movement was a bit sluggish but he has potential. Best part of his film for me was watching #25 do his thing. Hopefully he camps and improves his agility and we can see his evaluations go even higher.

Onwenu announced his commitment via Twitter, writing "Happy to announce I've just committed to the University Of Michigan."

Onwenu (6-3 365) attends Cass Tech in Detroit and was a teammate of 2015 OSU signees Mike Weber and Joshua Alabi. He is rated the No. 5 offensive guard in the nation per 247Sports, and the No. 7 guard in the 2016 class per the 247Sports Composite.

Blessing in disguise, In seeing him over the last few camps and games I thought he was really heavy-footed and had problems with guys who are just as big and more athletic than him. Plus they already have a stud OG from Cass and don't even play him...smh

I believe he was invited to The Opening where he will have an opportunity to go up against just such opponents.

I stated this earlier in his thread but really I was not that impressed with him on either side of the ball and saw the same issues. Not sour grapes, as I expressed this when we were the leader. I'm fine with this.
