Miami(OH):
Offense:
Miami's offense had some sparks of life but you can tell it is a young offense and it was the first game of the season. Miami's new QB, Kokal, has an arm but was off on some throws. He went 16/26 with 182yds. Kokal had some lucky breaks because NW could of easily picked off about 2-3 balls but went through their hands. There were also a few missed routes, one of which costed Miami a TD. Also Kokal would not have those yards without Robinson. It was very obvious that Robinson is the best player Miami has and is their go to guy. He had 9rec for 143yds and a catch of 53yds in the 4th.
Miami's running game basically is non existent, but Kokal can run out of the pocket very well. Kokal sits in the pocket but can run it out if need be.
Overall Offense: B
Defense:
Miami's defense looked pretty solid the first half holding NW to 0 points. Miami has a good set of LB and their secondary can hold their own. The defensive line is not very solid and hardly put any pressure on Kafka, NW's QB. Miami had a few times they could of picked the ball off but went straight through their hands. The second half was a disaster for Miami, they could not stop the run at all.
Overall Defense: C
Special Teams:
Miami's special teams are not that great at all. Their kicker does not have that strong of a leg, NW's average start was around the 30-35yd line. He also missed a pretty easy 37yd FG. Miami's punter though has one heck of a leg, booming a 69yd punt. Almost every punt pinned NW in their own 20.
The return game was ok. Kickoff returns didn't produce much, but Robinson didn't return any kickoffs. NW would not punt to Robinson at all, ao Robinson never had a chance to even return one.
Overall Special Teams: C-
Northwestern:
Offense:
Northwestern's offense hardly did anything in the first half but came alive after halftime. Again, it was obvious that it was the first game of the season with a few missed routes. Kofka looked alittle out of in the 2nd quarter throwing 3 balls in a row that were a good 5yds short of his WR. Overall Kafka was very accurate going 13/17, but does not have a strong arm for the 30yd+ passes. Sutton splited time with Terrell Jordan at RB and only had 13car for 64yds. Sutton also had 3rec 22yds with 1TD. Kafka is a very very good running QB and can find the wholes and has some speed. Kafka ended with 17car for 93yds. I was very impressed with Jordan at RB. He is a drop the shoulder and plow type of back that can break tackles and find the holes. He had 8car for 41yds and 1TD.
The Northwestern WRs are about average. Nothing to special, but nothing to bad. They are good enough to get the job done though.
Overall Offense: B+
Defense:
Northwestern's defense looked pretty solid overall. Their defensive line is huge and they were in the backfield giving Miami threats almost every snap. Their secondary is alright, but gave up alot to Robinson. They just can't keep up with fast WRs.
Overall Defense: B-
Special Teams:
Northwestern's special teams were not much better then Miami's. Their kicker does not have a very strong led, which led to Miami starting at about 30yd line. Their punter has a pretty good leg but didn't have one punt over 50yds.
Overall Special Teams: C+
Game Ball:
My game ball would go Ryne Robinson. He was the best player on the field by far. Even with an ok QB, he still made plays and get some YAC.
