Miami OH 6, NW'ern 16 (final)

Fredo coach, and former domer OC, Mike Haywood is proving that he didn't fall too far from Fat Bastard's orbit.

Mike Haywood, coach of 0-5 and arguably the worst team in D1 Miami of Ohio, is badmouthing his upcoming opponent.

You wouldn't know Miami is 0-5 from listening to coach Mike Haywood, who called Notre Dame's plays for the first nine games last season as the Irish offensive coordinator.

A confident Haywood said during the Mid-American Conference call Monday that after defending Cincinnati's zone-read rushing attack, his team will have an edge against Northwestern's.
Speaking of speed, Haywood didn't seem overly impressed with Mike Kafka's running ability. Removing two sacks, the Northwestern quarterback gained 59 yards on 16 carries at Purdue.

"We can't let the quarterback get out and scramble," Haywood said. "He can run away from D-linemen, but I don't think he can run away from linebackers or secondary guys."
"It definitely will (help)," he said. "However, Cincinnati is a solid No. 10 team in the country, and they have the personnel also. So the speed of the game won't be as fast going into this week's game."

Stay classy, Fredo.

As a Miami University (Ohio) undergrad alum, I take umbrage (thanks Steve19) with the smack the coach is talking. I guess he studied too long under Weis, but you gotta walk the walk before you talk the talk. Not sure if he's trying to fire up the 'Skins, oops, the Redhawks, but I'm pretty [censored] certain that the Mildcats will become the Wildcats on the field.

During my stay in Oxford (OH), in the Purity (one of the 3.2 beer joints in town), the goal post from the Miami victory was up on the wall. Well, the Purity closed, and no one knows where it got to. Would like to have it replaced by one tomorrow.

Well, now you know why they played Cincy so tough last week and Cincy advanced in the polls.

They've held mighty Northwestern to only 16 points through three quarters while scoring, uh, oh nevermind...

Demetrius Dugar just went helmet-to-helmet on a Fredo punt returner. No flag. Let's see if he gets the Kurt Coleman treatment. I doubt it happens. BTN announcers were pimping the hell out of that hit and over 5 replays never pointed out the nature of the hit even though you could see and hear it clearly.

That transitive property stuff and "weak Big Ten" argument will bite Cincy fans in the rear after this one. Miami scores against the scrubs with a minute left to get on the board against lowly Northwestern.
