Medical question/advice...

Honor&Glory

Paper,Rock, Scissors, Lizard, Spock!
This probably only concerns you older BP'ers out there, but...

I just got diagnosed as being a type 2 diabetic. I have not talked to a diabetes educator/dietician yet...

Any Buckeye fans on BP who suffer from this affliction have any advice or support for one of your own? :(

what's a good bg number? My average for the last two weeks is 178 and is always high in the mornings. I have no idea what I can eat (the damn dietician and I keep playing phone tag) and I am just f'n depressed.

between 90-130mg/dL in most adults...it will be slightly higher after eating....your key is sticking to your diet and exercise....and Tibor is correct on getting an eye exam yearly...

right now eat low-fat, low-salt, fiber (ie, beans, veggies, grains) until your dietician gives you a specific diet for your condition and medical needs...but I can't say it enough is stick to the diet and get exercise...

178 is way too high. You need to be close to 100, lower than 80 is too low.

I would add to tibs' shoes suggestion and say to also keep a close eye on your feet, maybe see a podiatrist once every couple years for a check-up, or at least have your family doctor check your feet once a year or so. Be especially careful with things like in-grown toenails and other types of penetrating cuts/wounds, because infections are sometimes harder to clear up with poorer circulation in your feet.
