What are medals given for?

I have wondered this forever and have searched about it a few times; either I suck at searching or I am just stupid, or both, or I'm high, or whatever. . .

Bronze, silver, gold medals are given for: (1) monetary contributions during semi-annual fund-raising drives; or (2) extraordinary work done on behalf of the site (like osugrad21, 3yardsandacloud, etc.). Hold your cursor over a poster's medal to see how he earned it/them.

Fans of other programs get a "medal" indicating their team of preference.

Thanks LordJeffBuck.

I saw that some were for specific contributions to the site. I guess the sp04, alamo, etc. were for fund drives (I thought maybe they were for attending games/group outings, etc.).

I guess I get nothing for my 50 bucks donated without having to be driven. . .

Thanks for the tips.

edit/addition: also, thanks for all the great work on the recruiting board. . . damn good stuff

Normally they'll give you medal for the nearest donation drive if that was your only contribution, especially with such a nice generation of $50...half a C-note is very gracious indeed. If I were a mod, you'd have one now...

If you were a mod? I thought you were THE mod. :) How can you not be a mod; you're a guy that needs the hammer. . .

I really don't mind about the medal thing - I was just giving a hard time. . .

I didn't donate for a medal. Just keep pumpin' out the info. . .

I meant to say, "If I were an admin", but looks like one of the admins hooked you up already.

Kind of on the same subject....what about the green (or red) meters underneath our vCash? if you put the cursor over them, they say different things for different people, and some are longer than others. Mine is fairly short but says that I am a Hall of Famer??

That's your "reputation". You get positive (green, emeralds) or negative (red, rubies) based on feedback from other members of this site. You can view your recent reputation (last ten comments) and total rep points by clicking the "User CP" link on the black menu bar near the top of the page. A poster who is "maxed out" with green might have a reputation anywhere from 1,500 to 1,000,000 (and some are pretty close to that million point mark). If you don't like your reputation being a matter of public record (i.e., you start to accumulate too many rubies), you can turn it off through the "Edit Options" link provided under the "User CP".

To give someone else "reputation", click the "check" icon
reputation.gif
on the red menu bar above the post for which you would like to provide some feedback. After clicking the icon, a window will open with two choices, approve or disapprove, and an area in which to type in a short message. After making your choice and comment, click the "Add to Reputation" button, and then that poster will have some new "rep" from you. Most people prefer that you sign your comments, whether they are positive or negative; we get a lot of people who whine about anonymous "dings" (negative rep).

Usually, anyone who donates outside of the drive is noticed by Jo, who then sends the info to the Admins, and then we give a medal.

If there is a hold up, it is an email issue. PM LongwoodBuck with the email address you used for your donation and she can straighten that out.
