MBIT (Meyers-Brigg) & Enneagram of Personality.

Here is a good resource for determining your MBIT typing.

Took it:

ENTJ
Extravert(11%) iNtuitive(50%) Thinking(12%) Judging(56%)
  • You have slight preference of Extraversion over Introversion (11%)
  • You have moderate preference of Intuition over Sensing (50%)
  • You have slight preference of Thinking over Feeling (12%)
  • You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (56%)

Here is one for determining your Enneagram profile.

You are a Type 3 with a 4 wing: "The Professional"

I'll have to read the Enneagram to understand what it means.

I'll save you some time......it means you're a douchecanoe.

Well it's 5:16 in the morning, I might as well take a personality test.

I remember way back (god I'm getting old) that my psych student sister made me do the first test. I was a very hard ENFP. I'll take the second now. I consider myself very logical, so the NF thing was weirder than I would guess. The E and P are easily me however.

Edit:

Okay, I tested a "You are a Type 2 with a 3 wing: 'The Helper Advocate'"

I am not sure I can be honest taking that test though. I found myself overcommitting to things (all fives) or 1s. I'm likely not so extreme.

Edit 2: Still similar, calmed down a bit with age:

ENFP
Extravert(89%) iNtuitive(69%) Feeling(50%) Perceiving(67%)

You have strong preference of Extraversion over Introversion (89%)
You have distinct preference of Intuition over Sensing (69%)
You have moderate preference of Feeling over Thinking (50%)
You have distinct preference of Perceiving over Judging (67%)

I'll have to read the Enneagram to understand what it means.

I am a fan of what the Enneagram represents, it's a lot more "spiritual" in the sense that it's less about hardcoded reactions and perceptions like the MBIT and more about what typical behaviors you elicit when under certain mental conditions (high-stress/low-stress/no-stress). It's got an ebb and flow to it that I highly identify with.

My INTJ numbers:
Introvert(11%) iNtuitive(23%) Thinking(38%) Judging(32%)

Are very median, and my I/E and my N/S can float on either side depending on where I'm at in my personal life.

In the Enneagram, typical 6 behaviors shift into 3 behaviors in high-stress situations and into 9 behaviors in no-stress situations.

So for 3's high stress situations often elicit "9-like" behaviors (The Peacemaker), while no-stress situations often bring "6-like" behaviors (The Loyalist).

Your wings are basically on which side of middle you typically lean. A 3w4 typically leans toward some of the behaviors of the 4 (The Individualist) more than the 2 (The Helper).

So for 3's high stress situations often elicit "9-like" behaviors (The Mediator), while no-stress situations often bring "6-like" behaviors (The Loyalist).

Is this why there were two more levels (for lack of a better word) on the Enneagram results?

Sort of.

Your wings are the leans next to the main number. 6w5 is a 5 wing to a 6.

The test I posted is just one that I like the questions to. It's easy to take and seems to accurately assess people.

That one is specifically meant to tell you your "Tritype", which is basically just your top 3 "scores".

So for example, my top score on that test is a 6w5. That means I scored highest in the category of "6" and then scored higher on 5 than on 7.

My next highest category is 1 and I score higher on 2 than on 9, so my second score is 1w2.

Next is 2w1.

So my "Tritype" is 612.

Ultimately that means I exhibit behaviors typical of 6's the most, 5's the second most, 1's the third most and 2's the fourth most.

The Enneagram is most effective when using it to compare and contrast patterns of behavior. I use it a lot when trying to understand why person A, who exhibits a lot of X-like behaviors, has a hard time getting along with person B, who exhibits a lot of Y-like behaviors, but only when one or the other is fatigued/overworked/stressed/etc...

It's good for putting a tangible metric on the dynamics of human behavior.

The areas of Integration (Growth or No Stress) and areas of Disintegration (High Stress) are represented in a specific order in two separate "loops".

1-4-2-8-5-7

9-6-3

Growth shifts from median to the left and stress shifts from median to the right. So a 4 exhibits 1-like behaviors during periods of growth/no-stress, while exhibiting 2-like behaviors during periods of high-stress. 9 to 3 in growth and 9 to 6 in stress, etc...

I'm going through mid-year statements and evals right now...I'm going to take both when I'm done just to see what the variance is....just for fun....

When we were studying personality types in the leadership development classes I took, they said that even if you're really strong in an area, you'll still access the other sides depending on the situation.

Or someone who likes being around people and can be discerning and clever enough to know who to kill and how to get away with it.

Hypothetically, of course.

Ever seen Strangers on a Train?
I like MBTI, but there's not much research on it. Partially because of its proprietary nature... still, it's mostly an adaptation of an earlier system devised by Jung. You don't really get into the new stuff until the functions though -- of which there's 4. And no matter what type you are, you have all 4 functions. Though the 3rd and 4th are generally late to develop in 20s/30s.

Still, I prefer it over Big5 (which has a lot of research behind it). On the surface there's a lot of similarity anyway. You can contain the 4 dichotomies from MBTI within the Big5 - neurotic is added as the 5th. However, where the Big5 falls terribly short imo is that it identifies characteristics that are desirable. For example, MBTI makes no judgment on Extroversion vs. Introversion. But Big5 is very clear in that Extroversion = good; Introversion = bad. In that way it says more about our American Culture than it does about an individual's personality and worth to family/friends/peers/coworkers/etc. In MBTI, there are good and bad INTJs.... and there are good and bad ENTJs. The personality test just identifies which one you are, not your worth. Big5, however, is very clear that ENTJ >>>> INTJ.

tldr: Big5 is a graded test. You want to score high in specific areas. MBTI makes no value judgments, merely identifies different styles of behavior and approaches.

Extravert(78%) Sensing(25%) Thinking(1%) Perceiving(22%)
  • You have strong preference of Extraversion over Introversion (78%)
  • You have moderate preference of Sensing over Intuition (25%)
  • You have marginal or no preference of Thinking over Feeling (1%)
  • You have slight preference of Perceiving over Judging (22%)
Usually the T is up near the Sensing and Perceiving....this damned evals will melt your brain

Your core type (your strongest type) is Type 6 with a 7 wing: Type Six individuals are reliable, committed, and security-oriented. They are natural troubleshooters, and are always aware of potential problems. This makes the Type Six anxious, but the anxiety fuels them to resolve their problems. They can range from loyal to rebellious, depending on where they get their security from – if the security is from within, they can be very defiant… if it comes from others, they can be very cooperative and devoted. When a Type Six is in a growth state, they become calm like a Type Nine. When they are stressed, they can become arrogant like an unhealthy Type Three. You are a Type Six with a Seven wing, which means that the committed nature of the Six combines with the outgoing nature of the Seven to create a very engaging personality.

Your trifix is 6w7, 8w7, 3w4.

It didn't change much on the second one....I guess there wasn't much variation...
