This list may change without notice based on performance, position change and/or injury during the 2005 season and is not designed to represent an all-inclusive listing of eligible candidates for the collegiate football awards presented by the Maxwell Football Club.

The Big Ten has 9 of the 51 Maxwell candidates, and 10 of the 49 Bednarik candidates. I lost interest before tabulating the totals for the other conferences...

3000 posts and you get lazy, JDub!

Hard to believe that the Mountain West has no candidates for either award.

Bednarik Award

Paul Posluszny LB

Alan Zemaitis DB

Penn State returns D1A's 2004 #6 Pass-D, #10 Total-D, and #5 Scoring-D. Both DEs are Seniors, all four DBs are Seniors, and they've got four Juniors with quality experience, and three players overall on the Bednarik Watch List.

If PSU knew what an end-zone looked like they would be a nightmare for any opponent. If their incoming recruits are half as good as the recruitniks say, than JoePa will go out a winner.

I'm not nearly as concerned with Texas or Iowa at home. The 4-7 record in 2004 be damned; beating Penn State in Happy Valley at night will be a hell of an accomplishment for the 2005 Buckeyes.

The award, named after Hall of Famer and University of Minnesota and Chicago Bears star Bronko Nagurski, recognizes the best all-around defensive players throughout the year with the Bronko Nagurski Player of the Week. In November, five finalists will be selected by the FWAA All-America committee and the trophy will be presented to the winner at a banquet on December 8 in Charlotte, N.C.
