There are tours to the Molikini Crater, if you are pre-certified SCUBA, do it, but if not, snorkeling is just as good, and easier. You snorkel in a place, see dolphins, go somewhere else, snorkel, see sharks, have lunch, and then to Molikini and snorkel some more. Beautiful fish galore. You never get tired of it.

If you do the presentation bit, play a little hard to get, and your payola will go up. Got our rental car paid for, a $100 toward a dinner (Sam's), a round of golf and club rental. Did more than the hour, but finally said, 'we're done here' and he signed the chit. However.......be very afraid, because if it's your first trip, you'll develop Island Fever, and it will do strange things to your checkbook......like buying a timeshare. We did it, and we have been over there 6 times in the last 7 years (one week or two). We enjoy the scenery, the weather, the people (they all try to make you feel special). Course we're on the Big Island, on the Kohala Coast, not Maui. Have a great time, and let us kinow if you end up buying a piece of Hawaii.....

Was definitely planning on snorkeling. I've never done SCUBA before, but I have snorkeled in the Bahamas and loved it.

As far as golf goes... I'm planning on playing a round or two - any course recommendations?

Feel free to stop by my in-laws house in Lahaina and stay for a while.

Everybody's hit on most of the "cool" things to do. Kapalua has some great golf, but it's probably going to cost you. Old Lahaina Luau is pretty good. Sunrise at Haleakala is a must. Front Street in Lahaina is something to do. To be honest, I'm not that up to date on the tourist things. When we go over there, it usually involves family type stuff. Need to find you a sports bar to watch the Bucks since it's during the season. Have to check on that for you.

Has anybody here played Royal Ka'anapali/Ka'anapali Kai? I'm expecting to pay an arm & a leg for golf compared to what I spend here at home, but relatively speaking they seem to have a pretty good deal if you play both courses. Deal or not though, I want it to be worthwhile if I'm gonna spend that much to play there. Perhaps the better question might be - are there any bad golf courses that I should avoid?

Anybody who can track down a bar in Lahaina w/ Big Ten Network... I'll be eternally grateful. The game I'll be out there for is vs. Illinois. That's the kind of game that can go either way when you're talking BTN vs. ESPN. I'll be back home in time for the Indiana game the next week. We're deliberately flying out of and into Columbus (as opposed to Cincy, Dayton or L'ville) so we can easily make it to that game. I'm sure we'll be dragging ass by they, but oh well. It's never a problem getting up for a game at The 'Shoe.

This place has 15 TVs, DirecTV and ESPN Gameplan, so the odds are good. Dollie's

For golf, would recommend passing on Kaanapali and going north (I think) to Kapalua, or south (I think) to Waimea. Those courses looked to me to be the more challenging and more lush (if that's possible in Hawaii). Had lunch right by the Kapalua course, overlooking it, and it was very good (but as expensive as a normal dinner). Sam's (a little north of Kaanapali) is a favorite of ours, and we've been to about 5 of them. Hidden behind a McDonald's and upstairs, but well worth it. Take the Molikini Crater trip with the outfitter of your choice, and snorkel to your heart's content. We take our own gear, and if you do, there's the 'Black Rock' on Kaanapali beach, and there's fish teeming around it. I believe below the Sheraton. You can park there, or park in the parking lot for the mall there and walk the 300 yards or so.

Enjoy, and send back pics. I'm sure that others have their own rec's, but those are mine and I'm sticking to 'em.
