Master Thread - All (Insert Coach's Name Here) Consensus Team Polls

Muck

Enjoy Every Sandwich
Since the All Era polls are (by necessity) spread out over a number of threads I'm starting this thread to keep them all consolidated.

Links to all of the various polls:

All Tressel Era Offense
All Tressel Era Defense

All Cooper Era Offense - Fleet Footed - Skill Positions (Poll)
All Cooper Era Offense - Big Uglies - Offensive Linemen/TE/K (Poll)
All Cooper Era Defense - Front Seven (DT, DE & LB) (Poll)
All Cooper Era Defense - Backfield (S, CB, P & KR) (Poll)

All Earle Bruce Era Offense - Skill Positions (Poll)
All Earle Era Offense - Offensive Linemen + Specialists (Poll)
All Earle Era Defense - Front Seven (DL & LB)
All Earle Defense - Backfield (S, CB, P & KR) (Poll)

Be sure to vote in all the polls you've missed!

To keep the clutter down and to make things easier let's keep discussions of the various polls in this thread.

PS: And don't forget Rhode Island Buck's All-Jim Tressel Era Team thread.

Question for the board....

Should I break up Woody's tenure into two separate eras?

Given the length of time that he was head coach and the vast changes that happened to the college game between the time he was hired and the time he was fired would it be more appropriate to do a 51-64 team and a 65-78 one for Woody?

Ironically those dates would dovetail almost perfectly with the substitution rule changes. 1952-1964 was strictly single platoon ball with unlimited substitutions being reintroduced in 1965.

Just to head a potential problem off at the pass...

It looks like it's possible that some players may get voted in at multiple positions (Jim Lachey & Charles LeBentley being the prime suspects).

Since not even lineman of their caliber can play two positions on the line at the same time I've been thinking about how to handle such a situation.

If it does occur I've decided to use the following criteria to decide which position they will be primarily selected for...

1. Percentage of votes (ie if LeChuck gets 90% of the vote at Center and 65% at Guard, he'll be selected at Center).

2. If #1 is a tie then whichever the selection to go to whichever position the player received the most total votes in (ie 85 votes would win over 75).

3. If 1 & 2 are ties then I will look at which player would be next in line at each position. The player with the higher percentage would be selected for that position and the original "tied" player will move to the other (if the percentage is the same then move to total votes as above).

4. If by some ungodly reason it is still a tie...then I'll just stick the player in the primary damn position he played in college and fill the other one with whomever is next in line!!

Breaking up Woody's tenure between single-platoon and two-platoon sounds like a great idea.

To be honest, I would prefer to see #3 used as the first criteria. I think getting the most popular choices "on the bus" is more important than getting those already on the bus into the right seats.

With the perspective of history, looking at the all Earl era its pretty clear to see where we were falling short. I'll never disparage a Buckeye player not named Clarret, but that list of names for DL was a little underwhelming to put it midly.

The OL of that era was pretty good but the DL just didn't have any dominant players I can recall. Kumerow was a tweener and about as close to the best DL that I can remember.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. The DL didn't have too many standouts, although Jerome Foster really was a stud.

I've watched a few of the games from that era recently and it's amazing how small most of those guys were compared to the DL from just a few years later.

The DL is the one area that I think doesn't match up well with some of the other coaching "eras" for the Buckeyes. Everywhere else I think they hold their own pretty well (yes even at WR & DB).

Sorry for the delay on the final two All-Tressel era polls. I've been backpacking for the better part of the last week.

I'll have the Defensive Backs & Special Teams poll up tomorrow.

In case you haven't voted in one (or both) of the first two polls:
The All-Tressel era Poll - Offensive Line, Tight End & Kicker
The All-Tressel era Poll - Defensive Front Seven

OK so it took a few more days than I claimed (went back to trail for Memorial Day weekend) but the next poll is now up...

The All-Tressel era Poll - Defensive Back Four & Special Teams
