You kids stay off my lawn!
I often get asked by ignorant folks (usually clad in blue and some shade of yellow clothing) "Hey, just what the hell is a Buckeye?"

This morning I look out my front window and see that my Buckeye tree is flowering, all of it's limbs covered by green leaves and pink flowers. A pair of robins occupy one fork again this spring and in the summer the tree helps keep that corner of our front porch cool and dark, making a perfect place for me to sit and read or for my granddaughter to build towers with her Legos. At some far distant point in time the tree will need to be replaced and when that happens the person who then owns this house will be able to cut the wood up and use it in the fireplace to make winter nights special and cozy.

All the time this is going on, the mascot of the blue and some shade of yellow fans will either be getting picked up on a drunk and disorderly rap or burrowing further down, either singing loud and obnoxiously in some cheap ass bar or eating it's young as weasels and other fighting folks are want to do.

So I look at my flowering tree, smile, thinking of all the good it is bringing to my world and to the world at large and ask, "Can your mascot do that?"

I've been fondly watching our (relatively new) Buckeye tree leaf out and begin to flower the past week or so. As the spring rains give it an occasional 'drink' and while the warming spring sun shines down on it, I think to myself "what a great time to be a Buckeye".

Meanwhile, Gators are holding up traffic in San Antonio, Bears are killing tourists in Tennessee, Hurricanes are expected to reach land more often this year and Trojans keep failing and causing unwanted shotgun weddings.
