Exactly.

If you’re Maryland, and Saban was just fired after they finally found all the dead hookers, you find a way to rationalize hiring him anyway.

You sell out for DJ Durkin? Exactly what has he ever done to be wanted? By anybody.

Year one: 6-7, 5th in the East, L in the Quick Lane (is this a real thing?) Bowl
Year two: 4-8, 6th in the East, L in the...wait...no Bowl game.
Year three: he doesn’t have any losses this year, at least. Oh. He hasn’t coached a game yet this year. Why? Oh yeah...gotta keep this guy.

One possibility is Pedigree...it happens on the academic side too. People get so caught up in who you worked for or trained under, they ignore looking at your accomplishments and readiness. “ZOMG This guy worked for Nobel Lauriate Science McWesternBlot!” Yeah, well if he was his #52 postdoc and he didn’t even know his fucking name, that ain’t good for much. Same with Durkin. I mean, at least guys like Hazel had some head coaching experience before they crashed and burned at a third tier Power 5...this guy has nothing but names on a sheet of paper.

This seemed like an easy and obvious fix.

But I think NW under Fitzgerald had a kid die of heat related issues years ago also. So this in and of itself does not mean he should be fired. Where I get lost is the amount of hate for this guy and they kept him. Leach when at TT locked a kid in a shed to sweat him out and they asked him to apologize and he said no so they fired him. I mean it seems unbelievable that they retained him. And if your Athletic Department cant cover the 5 Million buyout then you need to get out of the B10. Seriously, if that was at all part of the discussion then they are truly pathetic.

I apologize to Fitzgerald. It was before he took over as coach and it was a kid who had an asthma attack that was also taking some supplements without the teams knowledge. So it was truly an accident.

All this for DJ Durkin.....unbelievable
