Maryland at Ohio State, 1/31/16, 1:00, CBS

Lord baby Jesus, FREE THROWS. It is so frustrating watching a loss over something so basic that should not be an issue. We need the effort that we had today and we will be fine moving forward, but we HAVE to improve on FT's...that is just unacceptable at this level.

But moving forward, I am really high on Giddens...I think he is going to be a star here and I see a lot of great things from him.

Tate and Lyle really need to work on them a lot. Could have used those in the last few minutes

Im proud of the boys effort today. The team needs to take a page outa Tate's book on effort and energy because he gave it his all today...if we had each and every guy playing like that or even close to matching that, we would be such a great team. They will get it right, Thad will make sure of it...but its up to players in the end to execute and as they grow up and gain experience I think that they will execute at a high level (that of which is expected of Ohio State players) We will be competitive the rest of the way

A great effort against a top ten team that embarrassed them so recently. It's a step forward.

But, holy smoke, what high school coach worth his salt puts up with free throw shooting like that. The game was lost at the free throw line.

I don't know the exact numbers, but seems like free-throws have been an issue for much of the Matta-era.
2015-16: 65.4%
2014-15: 68.0%
2013-14: 68.9%
2012-13: 70.8%
2011-12: 70.9%
2010-11: 70.1%
2009-10: 69.6%
2008-09: 70.1%
2007-08: 68.7%
2006-07: 70.3%
2005-06: 71.8%
2004-05: 65.6%

Generally in the #150-200 range nationally. This year is in the 300s, one of the worst in the entire country.

I have said it over the years, this is ALWAYS an issue under Matta-coached teams. I am not a basketball expert by any means, but what the hell needs to happen to turn this into a strength? It just seems like something that repetition could cure. Anyways, if somebody more motivated than I could provide that stat, I will send many theoretical greenies your way.

EDIT: @OHSportsFan, you get all the greenies.
