Mark May (Blew 5 guys at Pitt)

Maybe you didn't see the connection between "72-0" and "Who did Mark May play for?" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1996_Ohio_State_Buckeyes_football_team. Ohio State played Pitt on 9/21/96 (I believe that was the last time they played each other), and won 72-0. On top of that, the score was CLOSER than the game was, as Cooper announced at halftime that he would have the Buckeyes throw any more passes. They didn't, and still continued to score points (though only 20 points in the second half), including a punt return for a touchdown with only 8 players on the field (7 blockers plus 1 returner).

Awesome post... a wonderful reminder :-)

Some other remarkable things, now that I've just watched this...

1. What an ass-beating!

2. We haven't had that many freshman names called since... well... this past Saturday... so much young talent on that '96 squad

3. So many kids from central Ohio on that squad

4. Love seeing Goings on that reel... one pinched nerve... transfer to Pitt... and... an 8-year NFL career... not too bad, I'm sure that pension is nice.

The other thing I miss? Orlando Pace.

I watched [Mark May] for brains Saturday as well. His rant was obviously planned, and Holtz's reply was not (as I care to believe).....

But it's also obvious that the BP and other OSU fanatics have 'gotten' to him and/or the ESPiN network, as he staged that outburst simply for the benefit of OSU faithful watching the Halftime Report....

It's all about the ratings (we've already established that), but the facebook and twitter replies to his and network indicate to me that the OSU faithful are making an impact. If they do something like that on camera to respond then it's in a direct response to 'our' messages to the [Mark May] face and the orifice he is.

Congratulations to those who donated the time and energy to twitter and facebook, it paid off, they heard you. No one (college) has been so vilified by [Mark May] as much as we have, so our ploy worked......and you're right, if it was 48-0 at half, he would have accued OSU of running up the score. By the way, with a player of his talent level, you'd have thunk that the Pitt coaches would have put him in for a goal-line stand or two (a la Orlando Pace)....guess not...
