Mark May (Blew 5 guys at Pitt)

I disagree .First of all, James, I think is coming back, he doesn't need the money and his father and himself have said it a few times. All the players, OSU lost last year and came back with a season like this year should explain itself. How loaded and young OSU is and with those top recruits coming in to either add depth or even stand out makes myself thinking huge for next years team

all fair points....I mentioned earlier this year, that while many thought next year was our championship run year, I thought this would be it b/c of the defense.

It's not very common to have 3 first round picks on defense, especially the caliber of Laurinitis, Jenkins, and Gholston.

If any of the 3 come back, it significantly improves our chances next year and where we start the year in pre-season rankings.

We definately have great talent and have proven we reload, but these guys are better than we even give them credit for IMO. Beyond just they skill they all ahve, is great leadership as well.

Jenkins is the best corner we've had since Winfield IMO, and probably better. Gholston creates so many opportunities for others and James brings great physical ability as well as leadership.

I just don't see us compensating for those losses to the D, if they do indeed move on to the NFL (which I suspect they will due to the increase in scholarship #'s it appears we'll have)

ya, I see what you mean to a point but, I just can't see how 3 top players on a great defense would set us back and below being in the TOP 5 when we are so loaded. A healthy Rose and Heyward at DE'S , we have 9 LB'ERS and the secondary is loaded with youth. I'm just comparing this years lost to last years lost of players and it doesn't worry me like last years did. Someone else will fit it just like they did for smith, gonzo, ginn, pittman,,,,,,,,,,,,
Anyway, Mark May is beyond stupid and to stupid to do any research on teams in the big ten

Along with the great D play of James, Vernon and Malcolm, we (if they all go :() will need to replace their leadership (not an easy task) If you watch our D play it is clear that these three are the leaders and while we have tons of talent behind them, sometimes it is harder to replace the leadership than the talent.

I think we will have leaders emerge without this trio (tho I hope we won't need them to) Wilson, Russell, and others seem to have that spark of leadership.

I agree, May is an idiot and Weis is fat

There is no way that Meyer will allow his team to be complacent.

I could have swore we had the same attitude about JT's troops before the NC game last year.

edit: that aside, leadership isnt something that worries me with this team. Each side of the ball comes
up with its anchor every year. In alot of cases, multiple. with the given examples on defense, the same
could be given for offense. While I wont lie, losing somebody you have trust in for unity's (or guidance) sake
can be large - its the character development of our younger athletes that gives me a positive outlook every year.

We'll have our generals emerge as always....

I hate Mark May, and really think most of what he says is just so stupid its funny. That said, while I think we will probably be one of the top 5 teams in the country next season, you can easily make a case for every team that he did put in his top 5:

Georgia: they lose 3 starters on defense and 3 on offense. On defense they lose 2 out of their secondary and a DE, hopefully Gator can comment better on how big of a loss these are because I dont really know UGA. But on offense they lose a WR (nullified by AJ Green) and an OT and C off the offense that may be playing the best football in the country since Knowshon Moreno got the starting job. Lot of guys coming back there, easy to see why they might be ahead of us.

Florida: they lose their 2nd best WR and a tackle who wouldn't be starting if whats-his-face wasn't out for the year, and a center, and add Moody and possibly Scott, so their offense will be much better next year. On defense they lose a DT, a S, and possibly a DE, and replace them all with 5* recruits. The improvement of the corners will be a big factor in how good they can be, but this defense won't have to be that good, cause the offense can outscore just about anyone.

USC: this may be the one team that we should be replacing, they lose a lot, but then again they have a lot waiting. Lose QB, both OT, and their best reciever (Davis), but Kalil could probably come in and start at one of the tackles and I am sure they have plenty of talented depth there. At QB, take your choice of Sanchez, Corp, or Mustain (all very good options). On defense they lose a lot, Ellis, Jackson, and Rivers, but the talent remaining there is still just a little sickening.

LSU: lose their starting QB and replace him with maybe a better QB, Doucet will hurt but Tolliver is a star in waiting. Lose an OT but we all know Barksdale is a pretty good football player and he got some experience this year, so their offense probably wont regress at all. Lose a LOT on defense, most notably Dorsey, but also both corners, and their backups aren't very good from what I hear (Jai Eugene, please step forward). But Chad Jones is probably better than Steltz in the secondary, and they keep enough playmakers (Beckwith, Allen, Jackson) that they will be a good unit.

OU: lose only Patrick and Finley on an offense that was great this year, and Murray is the better RB anyways so this unit will be unreal on offense next year (especially if Duke Robinson and Malcolm Kelly stay). Lose some guys on defense, most notably in the secondary, but I am sure that the backups are talented enough to step in and hold their ground. Again, a unit that won't have to stop guys a whole lot to win games with that offense.

Personally, I think we should be up there, somewhere in the top 3 with UF and OU. But acting like May not including us is some huge atrocity is blowing things out of proportion just a little bit.

Why does it matter where we start next year? We'll move right up after the imperfect preseason rankings show their face and all the posers in front of us fall! Dont forget we get to prove ourselves early next year against one of that fags (Mark May) top 5 teams. After we walk on them its to the top and all the glory returns! Dont worry about crappy preseason rankings they dont mean anything, look at us now!

anyone else hear May's on ESUCKY top 5 teams for 2008. No OSU mentioned and just shows how stupid he really is. With most the players coming back from the 2 deep and only MAYBE, a couple juniors going pro. He had USC,OKLAHOMA,GA,FLORIDA and LSU. I knew he had USC # 1 but, the rest were just named

If he said this, it's different than the top-5 he named earlier this week. He had West Virginia in there instead of LSU in the list he gave when I was watching.

 thats May. I heard the same then, 7 teams for his top 5 :!with still no OSU and the one I posted. I bet ESPN will stick with only one of his sides. They've done it a bunch of times before, to cover up how stupid ESPN really is.

yes I think its not a big deal but, this site is about how fucking stupid MAY is and so I brought up how much OSU's depth comes back for next season. So not to be a top 5 or higher team after we win the title is beyond, him being stupid.

he just dropped a gem at halftime of the ASU UT game. he said the speed of LSU's Dline will be like going from college to the NFL for our offensive line because we have no one near as fast to practice against. WOW!
