In all the years that I went to the first round games, I just wanted to see a 16 beat a 1. If it happens in Buffalo while I'm not there (that's where our group would have gone this year), I don't know how I'll feel. Probably still pretty good because Nova fans are almost as insufferable as Duke fans.

i didn't realize that there is a bonus for every underdog correctly chosen. if i would have known that, i would have chosen each 9 to win. considering that 9s are not underdogs historically, there is no reason to pick an 8 unless you somehow have them beating a 1. even the 7-10 game may warrant picking the underdog.

edit: 39% of the time, the 10 beats the 7, so always picking the 10 is a net-gain unless you're a solid handicapper and/or you have the 10 beating the 2.

From the bracket thread, posted by yours truly:

Pay attention to the scoring system. You get a little something extra for nailing that upset, and your bracket isn't completely destroyed if one of your final four [Mark May]s the bed this week.

Maryland about to join Minnesota as B1G teams losing to double-digit seeds, and we came in 11th place in the conference.

Butler is now 9-0 in NCAA tourney games as a higher seed. That's the longest unbeaten streak before their first such loss by any team.
