  • Man Kills Buck With Bare Hands in Bedroom
    November 02, 2005 12:19 PM EST
BENTONVILLE, Ark. - For 40 exhausting minutes, Wayne Goldsberry battled a buck with his bare hands in his daughter's bedroom.

Goldsberry finally subdued the five-point whitetail deer that crashed through a bedroom window at his daughter's home Friday. When it was over, blood splattered the walls and the deer lay dead on the bedroom floor, its neck broken.

Goldsberry was at his daughter's home when he heard glass breaking. He went back to check on the noise and found the deer.

"I was standing about like this peeking around the corner when the deer came out of the bedroom," said Goldsberry. The deer ran down the hall and into the master bedroom - "jumping back and forth across the bed."

Goldsberry entered the bedroom to confront the deer and, after a brief struggle, emerged to tell his wife to call police. After returning to the bedroom, the fight continued. Goldsberry finally was able to grip the animal and twist its neck, killing it.

Goldsberry, sore from the struggle, dragged the dead animal out of the house.

"He got kicked several times. He was walking bowlegged for a while," Deputy Doug Gay said.

That's kind of scary. We just saw a 6-8 pt buck in my buddy's back yard last week. It looked up at me and for a second I thought it was going to charge through the window. Luckily it ran away instead. I don't know if I could hang in there for 40 minutes like this dude.

Deer Stops at Nurse's Station at Hospital
    November 01, 2005 9:37 PM EST
ALMA, Mich. - A deer smashed through two glass panes and entered a hospital, stopping at a first-floor nurse's station before being tied up and removed from the building.

The animal, cut and bloodied, burst into Gratiot Medical Center about noon Monday, said David Koutz, the hospital's director of facilities.

A nurse blocked the deer's path into a hallway leading to patient rooms, while other staffers closed patient doors.

Staffers covered the deer's head with a blanket, calming it enough for them to tie its legs with ropes, place it on a cart and get it out of the building.
An officer from the state Department of Natural Resources later killed the seriously injured deer.

No people were injured, and the only damage to the hospital was the broken window panes, Koutz told the Morning Sun of Mount Pleasant.
