I was set on getting 09, but now I'm cooling off on it.

The reviews coming out are ok, but I'm tired of playing these football games that do not bring anything new to the table.

For example, one of the NHL hockey games coming out are doing something innovative:

EA SPORTS Hockey League—Throw your newly created player online, join a team with up to 50 friends, and become one of the first to experience massive multiplayer online play in a console sports video game. Featuring live six vs. six team play, become the first great name in online hockey.

Awesome.

Think of how much better that works with sports like basketball or hockey. It would be cool to have, but I don't see how it would ever work. On offense there are 3 positions people want to play, WR, HB or QB and maybe TE. On D people wouldn't mind playing anywhere I would assume. Great idea, I just don't seeing it work in football.

They've had 4 player functionality for a LONG time, how often do we use play 4 on a side, even in college dorms?

Neat idea, but just not something practical enough to be used.

I know there were some people on here who draft all buckeye teams. you can create nearly identical pants black/white/red/white/black in the create a uniform. No luck resembling anything close to the helmets or jerseys but obviously you can just create red jerseys w/ the white lettering and silver helmets.

Pretty impressed with the game after a half of play. I did a fantasy draft with the Eagles (I like their jerseys :tongue2:).

Umm.. scratch that.. the opposing team just punted on 1st and 10 and Hester muffed it in the endzone and they scored a touchdown.

I simmed a whole season in Madden to see how the Buckeyes looked that entered the draft. After my first year of the dynasty, Freeman won LB of the year and Beanie got Heisman(but not RB of the year, wtf?). Those two along with Jenkins and Laurinitis were in the draft. Jenkins was a 86 overall (predicted 2nd rounder), Laurinitis was an 88 overall rookie and was predicted 1st round and Wells was and 83 overall and was a late 1st-2nd rounder(but I picked him at sixth anyway!). I don't remember where Freeman was picked at but I think he was a 72 overall. Other than that I thought the drafting needed to be looked over again, the game ain't half bad. I still love NCAA, for numerous reasons (crown/environment, and option).

So I finished that game.. won 28-17. Should've had another TD at the end, but apparently Jonathan Stewart sucks at the goalline. Here are the stats for those who are curious:

Jay Cutler - 17-24; 278 yards; 2 TDs; 3 sacks; Rating of 137.1

Adrian Peterson - 24 carries; 103 yards; 2 TDs; 4.2 AVG

Brandon Marshall - 7 rec; 125 yards; 32 long
Malcolm Kelly - 4 rec; 102 yards; 40 long; 1 TD
Adrian Peterson - 3 rec; 34 yards; 21 long; 1 TD
Kellen Winslow - 3 rec; 17 yards; 9 long

Marlin Jackson led the team in tackles with 8, but the other team was very pass-happy with Tony Romo, Larry Fitzgerald, Patrick Crayton, and their 35 rushing yards. Jonathan Vilma was second with 7. Big Vern's debut was disappointing.. 3 tackles at starting OLB.

Chad Greenway, Jamaal Anderson, Amobi Okoye combined for 6 TFL. Only one sack (Anderson). No INTs (no turnovers in the entire game).

Hester averaged 27 yards per KR. I didn't return any punts.

Thoughts after the first game - considering I have Will Smith, Amobi Okoye, Vernon Gholston, and Jonathan Vilma, I was pretty disappointed with the (lack of) pass rush. Run defense was fantastic, but I couldn't get any pressure when Romo dropped back to throw. Romo passed the ball very effectively. Mike Doss is my starting SS and his awareness isn't too high, so they could run slants pretty well. I probably should've adjusted and put my OLBs in zone coverage, but I don't have the defensive playmaker thing down yet. Offense is easy, running seems to be more difficult. I converted every third down, including two of 20 yards (one converted for a TD).

I like it. I'll have to get used to the fact that they took out the passing cone.. bullshit.

I did manage to get a decent list of Buckeyes and Big 10 players. Doss, Gholston, Will Smith, Troy Smith (backup), Brian Calhoun (3rd string), Mark Setterstrom (Minny, backup C), Chad Greenway, Lamaar Woodley (backup) :sick1:, Marlin Jackson :sick1:, Ty Law (3rd string) :sick1:.

All-pro, I think. Whatever is the second-hardest difficulty. I could bump pass offense up to the hardest setting and probably still do alright, I'd just rely more on the running game like I did in '08. You can do custom settings, by the way.

It feels a bit different. I couldn't jump right into the hardest setting. After I get used to it I'll move it up. The game plays slower than last year's version.

EDIT: I also used Philly's playbook, I usually use Balanced Pass or something like that. I liked their WR routes, but the fact that they didn't have a toss play in the goalline formation kind of sucked, and there were a couple other plays that I used from the Balanced Pass playbook from '08 that I didn't see. Can't remember what they were, I'll post them after I get more familiar with things.

Impossible to have a good/consistent pass defense.. I've played three games now and each time the opposing QB has had about 4 incompletions, no INTs. I moved the slider down to rookie and Jon Kitna is looking like Joe Montana. Fucking ridiculous. I'm not this bad at defense.

EDIT: Now that I say that, I get four sacks (3 from Jamaal Anderson - this guy is a monster) and two INTs.

(I didn't keep the slider on rookie btw)

So I'm doing a franchise with the Browns and wanted to get started on scouting incoming rookies, but as I was going through the roster to look where I'm weak on the depth chart, I was surprised to see that Cleveland is solid in EVERY single position. I'm thinking on maybe just getting a shutdown corner in the draft (M. Jenkins) because the team is pretty good. There's not a single starter below 82 except the Punter. And if it weren't for the #2 CB, the next lowest rating is an 84 at FS and CB.
