BN $ - "Ohio State Is Really Close To..."

10/25

By BK...talked with OSU yesterday and is waiting on the word from Coach Fickell and Coach Heacock...other offers from Syracuse, Pitt, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green, Akron, Toledo and Ohio...grew up an OSU fan.

Jordan Washington committing to Mississippi State may have opened the door for Willie...

I've seen Willie Henry play. He can be really really quick off the snap of the ball. He can penetrate into the backfield and be disruptive. He would not be good if you want him to just stand up and tie up blockers. A DC must allow him to penetrate and get into the backfield since that is his strength as a DT.

Excellent quickness and very very good speed for a DT. He also has a good motor.

He was impressive in that ESPNU game. Not sure if he's OSU caliber or not but we're sitting pretty decent with DTs right now.

Farris was right at 300 lbs last check and will likely be playing inside. Hale will be the NG when Goebel leaves and Bennett is an all around stud. Not sure if Hankins stays a 4th year but that would put us in terrific shape if he did.

Just don't feel like we need a DT this year. Can wait for next year and get Billy Price and someone else and Billy looks like a kid that can come in as a freshman and contribute.

I'll respectfully disagree, Look at Johnathan Hankins. Talent + tOSU weightroom + tOSU coaching + commitment = All American. We have a pretty good system set up for players to succeed

Plus I thought Hale was playing the 5 tech in the spring game and did pretty well at it, IMO if anything it will be Bellamy making the switch to inside.

Billy Price IMO, if he commits to tOSU will continue the tradition of weightroom freaks

I didn't say he wasn't OSU caliber, I just don't know. It's clear the kid wasn't our first choice at the position.

Not sure how Hankins compares, Hankins was a great talent with big time offers, just needed S&C big time.

Bellamy will probably slide inside more and more as our young DEs grow. Just saying we are fine at DT and if we don't get 1 this year we can get 2 next year. 1 in Billy Price and possibly 1 in Lovell Peterson or someone else. Lovell may play OL.

Haven't heard a lot about this kid. Would he be considered a "reach" for OSU?

Yes. Any top tier program offering him is looking at him as a project. He may have had a chance at an offer under the old regime...but with Meyer I don't see it happening.

Hoke trying to get a better toe-hold at Glenville is likely a factor. Most of the consternation that I have seen from the scUM side is why they are now taking Henry when they had months earlier "passed" on Schutt and D. Obrien. Their class has also stalled out a bit. Two months ago I don't think any um fan would have expected to have room for a project dt and te in the last week of recruiting.

I agree, and if this kid goes blue, you can be sure some will watch him and Schutt very closely.

People have compared his recruitment to Jake Ryan and Frank Clark, to fellow Ohio kids that were considered late bloomers.
