L'ville +9.5 vs Ky (ov/un 137.5) Sat 6 ET, CBS

All kinds of subplots here. The rivalry. Pitino against his former employer on the game's biggest stage. A Kentucky team that's trying to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Pitino's best season at the school. A rematch of the coaches who squared off in the 1996 semifinal where Pitino eventually came out ahead and went on to win a title. A star player at UK that is very reminiscent of the UMass star that Calipari featured in that 1996 season. The fact that Calipari has pretty much mimicked Pitino's career path (with the exception of the toxic NCAA problems he has left in his wake at every stop).

I can't help but think back to the Louisville-Florida game from this past weekend. It was the apprentice (Donovan) vs. the master (Pitino). Florida jumped out to the big lead, but the master had a few tricks up his sleeve, made a few adjustments and outmaneuvered the apprentice to take the victory. Kentucky has the more talented team, but I can't help but think that Pitino is a good enough coach to find a way to win in spite of that.

Louisville has looked stunning on defense in the Tourney, but I am not convinced that they can hang with Kentucky. UK looks very, very good at present. If the Buckeyes win, either of these teams will present quite a challenge right now.

I am completely convinced that Louisville will hang with Kentucky. I think Louisville +9.5 is a very good bet - the only way UK covers is luck (i.e., injury to UL player or late back-door cover through FTs). UK didn't blow UL out earlier this year, and that game was at UK. I believe the UL players will want this one more than the UK guys. Louisville just handled a solid MSU team and made a great comeback against Florida, while UK has played soft teams in one of the easiest regions in recent memory. OSU would've blown all the teams UK played out if they had that draw last year instead of the crappy one they got. I think it's only this weekend when we will find out if UK is really a tough team or just a collection of really talented players who have capitalized on a soft schedule.

UK has not played that tough of a schedule in my opinion - not many teams they played had the toughness of the teams they are likely to face in the F4 (UL and OSU), and when they do play tough teams they don't blow them out. Baylor is soft. Indiana is soft.

?He just happened to think UofL would beat UK and he started to run his mouth,? said dialysis patient Ed Wilson, who is a Kentcuky fan. ?That?s what started it.?
How dare someone think UK might lose.

?I didn?t talk to him about the ball game; I was talking to another guy about the game,? Taylor said. ?He was meddling. And told me to shut up and gave me the finger!?
:roll2:

Wilson added: ?I went up to him and I hit him. Didn?t hit him that hard, but I hit him.?
:stupid:

No question the SEC is soft and one of the weakest major conferences in basketball. Question is how over-hyped are the Wildcats? They're supposed to win the Tournament in a landslide at this point. Kill Louisville and handily beat OSU/KU. I hate to see it happen because I hate Calipari and the UK attitude, but we'll see.

I don't see Louisville winning, but boy do I ever want them to.

I hope Kensucky makes it, we take care of Kansas, and get a shot at redemption. I hate Calipari and Kentucky (who just happen to have a near equivalent following from bandwagon fans in Ohio), I want that shot.

Cards with 2 missed dunks but Kidd-Gilchrist just went out with 2 fouls and over 13 minutes left in the half. Cats up 8 when he left.
