LSU Tigers (official thread)

Hey guys,

My husband has a theory I'd like to get some thoughts on. I keep telling him this is incredibly unlikely.... and untrue. However, I do have some doubts perhaps you could help dispel as to why.

So, he thinks if we were to end up facing LSU in the post season (whether it be in a bowl game or semi-final/Championship) they'd have an advantage due to the JB transfer. Let's be honest, if the teams turn out to be on equal footing (similar records, whatever) the committee could find it to be an attractive match-up simply for this reason.

My husband keeps saying, however, JB knows how Meyer works, what his moves are and general plays (he even went as far as to say he knows our playbook). Our team is better than LSU's as far as talent IMO. But, JB was on our team and played on the field with some of the same players. Would this give them an advantage? How much does JB really know after transferring this season?
They're not beating both Bama and Georgia

Assuming for the sake of discussion that they DO make their way through the SEC unscathed (or at least enough to face the Buckeyes in the post-season)…

Stanley Jackson tells of when he was traded from one CFL team to another. In his case, his old team did not trouble themselves with changing their signs, all of which Stanley knew very well. His new team won that game by multiple touchdowns.

I seriously doubt that any staff with Meyer OR Schiano OR Wilson OR Day would overlook that detail. A staff with all four has zero chance of not changing signs when they have a month to do it.

That, in my opinion, is the only thing that could really give LSU an advantage, and it is even more unlikely than LSU facing OSU in the post-season.

You forgot the most paranoid coach that we have on staff, Alex Grinch.

And if you think Leach is highly conscious of opponents’ sign-stealing efforts, consider this: Grinch swaps out the wristbands as many as six times a game, just in case an opponent is trying to break his code. One game, he changed them eight times.

I completely understand that.... HOWEVER, there's no guarantee in CFB we're going to win every game (cough Iowa) on our schedule either. If we end up with a two loss season and so does LSU this could happen. IMO (and probably everyone else's) we will move forward and maybe lose 1 game or none. But... we did lose 2 games last year. Yes, different situation as one was out of conference. Still, not entirely a given.

Thanks for this really complete answer. I tried to explain this to my husband as well but I didn't have enough history/info to win this argument. Or at least tell him exactly why... Personally, a little part of me wishes we could play LSU. But, I'd rather have another crack at Clemson more (I think).

If both you and LSU have two losses at the end of the regular season. Make plans to enjoy sunny Orlando and the Citrus Bowl on January 1st. Nutria will meet you there.

Assumption College is cashing in thanks to LSU kicker Cole Tracy’s success

One of the big surprises of the young college football season so far has been the play of LSU, which has two of the best wins of any team after beating Miami at AT&T Stadium to open the year and knocking off Auburn at Jordan-Hare this past weekend.

Key to the success of the Tigers? Look no further than perhaps the smallest guy on the roster in graduate transfer kicker Cole Tracy. His 42-yarder as the clock hit zero beat their SEC West rivals and he had plenty of clutch kicks against the Hurricanes as well. Well, SEC fans being SEC fans, the success of the kicker is not going unrewarded… for his old school. It seems many Tigers fans are sending money back to tiny Assumption College, a Division II program in Massachusetts.

Per USA Today:

A couple of the initial gifts were for $54, apparently because of Tracy’s 54-yard field goal against Miami in the season opener. And yes, as you’d expect, a few of the gifts that have come in after Tracy’s 42-yard field goal to beat Auburn were for $42. A few were for $42.36 — 42 for the field goal, 36 for Tracy’s LSU jersey number.

(Vice president for institutional advancement Tim) Stanton says at Tracy’s request, the gifts made in Tracy’s name will go to support Assumption’s football program. And while we’re talking about names, during an interview Saturday night with USA TODAY Sports, Stanton joked about naming a goalpost for Tracy. Except he apparently wasn’t joking.

“We don’t know where this is gonna end,” Stanton said. “If this continues and gets to a higher amount, there will probably be some kind of naming opportunity. If it really reached some significant levels — this might sound ludicrous, but like $1 million — we’d name the field after him.”

As of Wednesday afternoon, some 141 gifts have been made totally nearly $7,000 per USA Today’s George Schroeder.

tell your husband to quit smoking crack.

OSU has Urban Meyer.
LSU has Ed fucking Orgeron.

we were just in a goddamn dogfight with Louisiana Tech!

whoopty-fucking-doo we beat auburn. we own those red neck bitches. even Dinardo had a winning record against them.

Urban could draw out every play in crayons and give them to O before each snap and we’d still fucking lose.
