Need Berry back healthy. The lineup doesn’t feel right without him.

Also, seems like Alex M. has a chance to catch this weekend. That would be great! Would allow McManus to DH.

If those things happen then I’d say a realistic chance at 2/3. Truth is when we play our brand of baseball we can beat anyone. Maybe I’m being to optimistic but that’s how I see it.

I watched LSU fight all day to stay in the game on Sunday. They are going to compete.

Big game tonight.

Tennessee will always start somebody good, because all they have is good starters.

What worries me much more than their pitching is the fact that Floyd may be starting against them.

When you can guess fastball 100% of the time and be correct 90% of the time, with Tennessee's lineup could spell disaster.

Paul Skenes

Paul Skenes highlights this list after transferring from Air Force to LSU for the 2023 season. The two-way player is a big reason why LSU enters the season as D1Baseball's No. 1 preseason team. As a sophomore last season, he recorded a 2.96 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 85.2 innings (15 starts) while limiting opponents to a .224 batting average. On top of that, he also batted .314 with 10 doubles, 13 homers and 38 RBI. Extremely productive on the mound, at the plate and one of the top names in college baseball for this season.

On Thursday, LSU coach Jay Johnson addressed the media to preview the weekend and give insight on what to expect this season.

Johnson revealed this weekend’s starters:

Friday - Paul Skenes

Saturday - Riley Cooper

Sunday - Chase Shores

It was always expected that Skenes would come in and be your Friday night starter. A true ace who has elevated this pitching rotation to new heights, he’s the gem of the group.

For Cooper and Shores, Johnson has raved about their improvement this offseason:

“I think both Riley and Chase have been the best performers from October 10th until this last week of intersquads. It’s really not close,” Johnson said. “Then with Grant [Taylor] going down with injury it allows us to set things up a little bit differently. You want to build confidence with your team.”

Shores, a freshman, has been the youngster that has opened the eyes of many over the last few months. With a fastball up to 99 miles per hour, he plays well above his age. Standing at 6-foot-8, 245 pounds, he’s also well developed for SEC baseball.

The Tigers will take on Western Michigan this weekend with first pitch scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday in Alex Box Stadium.
